I feel stupid, but it took me forever to realize that Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov=Rodion=Raskolnikov. For a good while I thought Raskolnikov was a different guy than Rodion, haha. sigh Oh, those Russian names.

I LOVE Atlas Shrugged so far. Sometimes I just get so caught up in her writing… she describes things so beautifully. I’m excited to have the time to sit down and finish it all!

@zencoran It has nothing to do with your decision tomorrow. Many of us who live in areas where there are many alumni have already had this “interview”. I had mine back in November, but some alumni are probably very busy and couldn’t get to it that fast.

I often have a trouble reconciling my enjoyment of some work with the author’s personality/views. Ayn Rand and Orson Scott Card in particular.

Ah, then I’ll have to move it further up on my list! I think I actually have it on my nook already so maybe I’ll start soon
the fountainhead was a monster of a book for me but it went so fast, her writing is just perfection haha

@pillagerguy I don’t let that bother me-though I have issues with Orson Scott Card himself, Ender’s Game was my first foray into real science fiction and remains one of my favorite books today.

Hahaha russian names are ridiculous sometimes. Kids in my class could hardly even pronounce Raskolnikov. Anyways, this is my last post for the night. When I wake up tomorrow it’ll be 11 hours away :x. Rooting for all of you guys!

Hey, I’m actually working on an essay for Crime and Punishment right now! cough Working…

I also didn’t realize that Rodya, Raskolnikov, and Rodion Romanovich were the same person. Same with Sonya and Sofya Semyonovich. Or Dunya and Avdotya Romanova. The first character-matching quiz was not too good to me, haha.

what is all this stuff about hacking and what-not?
C’mon future cornellians
we’re better than this
Class of 2017 had to wait to find out, so did Class of 2016, and so on so forth

i think it might be time for us all to just sit down, eat a cookie or two and go to bed

mkscience, if you read through you’d have seen that no “hacking” took place. The only comment that actually led to anything was a link to a public and easily accessed website with a to-do list. Also, I don’t see why using our skills and intelligence to help ourselves is really such a bad thing.

Telling us all to “calm down” is just a way for people to feel superior to the rest of us. Making yourself seem cool and collected by comparison doesn’t make you some wise sage dispensing wisdom to the lowly and neurotic. Being nervous about this is perfectly sensible. It’s a HUGE deal, and you’d have to be a little crazy to be perfectly okay with waiting.

I didn’t say anyone was actually hacking anything. I just meant that this entire conversation around the subject wasn’t really honorable. I applaud everyones amazing computer abilities, I know I could never be able to do something like that. Using said skills and intelligence to do something dishonorable is a bad thing. But that’s just my opinion.

I’m really just trying to lighten up the mood here and help ease everybody’s nerves. No harm intended!

But who knows. Maybe I am crazy. But its certainly not up to your jurisdiction.

So anyone else hate Ethan Frome as much as I did, or am I alone on that one?

@madmaninabox No you are not alone, I absolutely hated that book. I had to read it over the summer before my junior year, and I liked The Scarlet Letter (which I also had to read that summer) far more.

On the note of deferrals, I remember at a coe info session they said they try to defer as little people as possible. The guy said that they know how much that sucks and try their best to give a yes or no. I think that’s pretty cool of them considering some schools defer upwards of 30%…

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

@Haters This is great news for me. I’m applying to CoE and as much as a rejection can/will hurt, I think deferral is just torturous.

so drummajor2014, is it safe to assume you are in marching band?

@madmaninabox Yes, that would be a correct assumption to make. XD

Yeah, one of the things I like about Cornell (after viewing previous year’s ED threads) is the low deferral rate. Though I’d be happy to get another shot at getting into Cornell, a deferral would drive me crazy. If I didn’t like Cornell so darn much, I think I would prefer an outright rejection over a deferral.

@madmaninabox I like your username. Big whovian here.

Yeah I did notice the lack of deferrals when I looked at the admissions stats of applicants from my school to Cornell.

I was literally vomiting because of stress…
