Official Cornell ED 2017 Results

Kathryne! I also got accepted to AAP! Glad to see another one of us :slight_smile: I did fine arts, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other around!

I glanced through your portfolio, and I’m in love with your Catfish 3D piece :D

@Yellowdog99 yeah I’m a bit bitter about it because normally my school has a bunch of Ivy league acceptances around this year, and EVERYONE got deferred from Harvard, Brown and Penn except me and Mr. marijuana-lord. He also has red solo cups on his fb profile so it’s not like he’s trying to keep his image clean.
-_-;

@ Newberrytiger Hahaha! Yeah that would be great! I’m sure I’ll see you around :slight_smile: The catfish piece was actually for my boyfriend because he has a secret catfish obsession. It’s sitting on my desk right now. It’s called Whiskers. I’m giving it to him for Christmas hahaha

A secret catfish obsession? That’s odd but also really interesting :stuck_out_tongue: Adorable though ^^ I bet he’ll love it!

If you haven’t seen yet, we have a Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/388634874551861/</a>
It’s up to you if you’d like to join, if not, it’s totally and completely understandable

:D Yeah! I’m joining! I’m technically class of 2018 though because B.Arch is 5 years but I still want to be in haha

Hey guys I know this is for early decision, but I was wondering if youd think Id have a good shot at regular decision. My boyfriend and his brother currently attend the school and its my second choice behind georgetoen although they are pretty much tied. I visit my boyfriend all the time and he loves it there and I have honestly fallen in love with the school myself, especially the campus.

I have a 2260 sat super scored my best in one test is a 2240. Math 800 critcical readin 680/700 and writting 760. Math 2 i got a 720 and honors us history i got a 700 exactly and also a 660 in literature. My freshman year i got all as but my sophomore year i got a c in an ap class for a semester and then i dropped to honors and a couple other ** that year but my teach wrote about in my letter of rec how i had a personal tragedy that year so hopefully that helps to explain that. I havent always taken all honors or ap but my junior year i took one of the hardest schedules possible including ap calc bc which i got a four on the exam. This year i am in two ap classes ap literature and ap government while also in two classes considered above ap the class after ap calc , calc 34 and then linear algebra which is after that.
For extra ciriculars i played competative volleyball for basically my whole life except junior and senior year. My freshman and sophomore year my team won regionals and placed in top five at nationals. I was starting libero and head captain both years for school and although i wasnt on varsity for school, i played a different position and also my school team was like best in the state. I also won a az doubles tourney

But i quit sophomore year which i think might look bad :/but i still coach i have my own ymca team and i got a job at a restaurant and have been a waitress for almost two years now. I also was an intern/fellow for organizing for america, obamas official reelection campaign.
I am in nhs and key club which is a service club. I am senior rep in key club. Im also in youth and government which is honestly the coolest thing ever you guys should all do it :slight_smile: but im like pr for that but i only did that this year.

Im also a published author i wrote a 13 page research paper for a project and it ended up getting published somehow haha
My letters of rec would be really strong seeing as my family friend iv known almost my whole life is my teacher and another teacher of mine is a yale graduate and wrote an amazing letter.
Im scared i dont have enough leadership or enough honors and ap classes because my sophomore year was a really bad one for me. Idk. im scared because i just dont know how truly selective cornell is. And im applying to aem which is like insane. Idk i just feel like everyone is so smart and its so weird to read all this stuff it pyschs me out!!! But i would really appreciate some feedback.
I would be applying to the aem school for economics and i knoe its really hard to get into! Ahhh in so nervous! Thanks so much for your help guys and congrats to all those who got in hopefully i will be seeing you next fall :wink: and those who didnt im sure you will get in somewhere that fits you better and i know you will end up exactly where you are supposed to good be and good luck on future apps :)

@Kathryne !!!Wow

That’s sad

Deferred from Human Ecology
CR800 Math770 Writing750
GPA 4.3 of 4.0
was sad yesterday but I guess I belong somewhere else

@taylor, georgtown and cornell were my top choices, too! except I went early at Cornell instead of Gtown and got in. your EC’s and SAT II scores are kinda lacking, but I think the most important thing above all else is to write amazing essays and get awesome recs. if you get those youll probably get in. good luck with georgetown! i think my friend said theyre mailing decisions this weekend.

@yellowdog99, I know ): It breaks my heart, because I can’t celebrate because ALL my friends got deferred and now have to work extra hard to send in other applications. I feel kind of guilty to be done.
@taylor, you definitely have a nice shot. Go for it!
@Corenellista, your GPA and SATS are amazing. You’ll definitely get into a good school, don’t worry!

I posted up stream before results came out, so I am going to repeat what I said before.

For people with very competitive stats and got deferred or rejected, show your application and essays to some adults to see if there was anything you could improve on. I would also see if there was some weakness with your LORs.

For applicants who got deferred and still want to pursue your opportunity at Cornell, I would put another packet together - additional essay, LOR, awards, updated transcript. Send the packet in end of Jan or beginning of Feb. If your GC is willing, have him/her call Cornell to see what was missing from your application so you could address it in your packet.

Above all, keep up your senior grades. They will help with your RDs, and maybe even with wait list. No one wants to think about wait list, but it is a real possibility for many students.

My older daughter was deferred from her dream school and ultimately rejected. She was also WL at two schools because they thought they were her back up schools. So I understand the range of emotion here. Allow few days to feel disappointed then move forward with what you need to get done in the next few weeks. I am confident most of you will end up at a place you will be happy at. Next year this time you will be worrying about your first semester grades.

Dipali I think you should be more grateful, and also a bit more sensitive that there are many others on this thread who have just as good of stats and got rejected. What makes you think Brown is a better school? I’m confused and makes me feel badly that you first choiced a school you didn’t love…btw, my daughter was accepted and she is over the moon!
