Wow, this thread and the Columbia thread are really scaring me. I’ve never seen such random results. Not to take anything away from those who got in, you all seem to deserve it, there were just so many outstanding applicants rejected. I’m hoping the same won’t be true for MIT EA, but you never know. This really proves how much of a game of chance everything is. A lot of you are definitely strong enough to get in at HYP, never mind Cornell. So who knows, maybe maybe most of you will end up at another amazing school. Just remember not to loose confidence in yourself when applying to other schools and remember that its more luck than anything else. Good Luck!

I was honestly thinking about not posting my stats.
I remember reading through pages and pages of these, wasting hours looking through and trying to find the perfect way to get into college X.

This is not the right way to get into college. Sure, looking at a couple is good, but I became entrenched in these stats, reading them like a mantra.

But maybe it was just me.
Basically, I don’t want to put kids like me in the same position.
I learned after a while that matching my stats with another kid’s who got in won’t guarantee admission.

A lot of engineering EC’s. Heavily evolved in TSA, won in state and nationals multiple times. Placed top 5 nationally for F1 in Schools. Won state and went to nationals for research. Won a bunch of volunteering awards too. Varsity swimmer too, if that helps. General Comments:
I guess if you want to do Cornell Eng, pick your EC’s wisely. I love engineering and put all my effort into my competitions. My SAT score was really bad, but I guess they took my ACT instead…lol. I thought as an Asian male with that score I’d get insta-rejected.

Congrats to next years class. Welcome to ****ty beer and packed sweaty parties, all-nighters feeling like suicide before a final, freezing your ass off, and paying no less than 10 dollars for a meal that consists of two pieces of bread and a thin slice of deli meat.

I feel really weird being surrounded by these people who are obviously very smart and were rejected. I feel only mediocre in comparison. I really think the fact that I live in a place that doesn’t churn out many high achievers or scientists or people pursuing agriculture academically helped me. Also, no one in my school went to an Ivy last year, and on average, only one or two do a year. It also sort of comforts me. I put myself into that application, and as the date drew nearer, I started to doubt how much I wanted to go to Cornell. But they obviously don’t just look at stats, they also look for fit. If they think I fit well enough, then I’m confident I do.

General Comments: I didn’t think my ECs showed the “fit” that Cornell looks for. I guess my supplement essay made up for it.

Congratulations to everyone who got in - I anticipated the great feelings, I’m truly happy some got to have them.

I got deferred from SHA (Hotel)
Don’t feel like posting all my stats, but heres some stuff:

ACT: 33 Comp (3 times, all 33’s)
SAT II: 750 Math

GPA: 4.5/5.5 about a 3.3

EC’s: NHS
4 years hockey
4 years community youth group with a whole bunch of com. service
4 years with local religious group and a bunch of com. service.
National Merit Scholar
10 years of band in school
some other little stuff

Work Exp. (big for hotelies): 40 hrs. / week in a hockey pro shop - I think this hurt me since it isn’t really hospitality related

Hook: LOTS of connections, alumni, staff, know the Dean personally, etc, both parents went, sister currently in CAS.

Surprisingly, I’m not too devastated, but I’m experiencing a calm that has been missing for the last few days - I’m gathering my thoughts and figuring out how to show my level of devotion in the next few months. Stay positive fellow deferred, and sincere, heartfelt sorrow to those rejected. Upon reading the first word and not seeing Congratulations! I immediately assumed the worst, but 20 min. later read the rest, I can’t imagine your pain.

Also - scs243, would you mind posting some info? just anything to help would be awesome - and very much appreciated.
