Decision: Accepted to ILR!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 720 CR, 670 M, 780 W
[] SAT IIs: 700 Lit, 630 Math I
[] GPA: 95/100; HS does not do a W/UW breakdown
[] Rank: Not applicable
[] Other stats: 5 AP classes–US History (junior year; 4), English Literature and Composition (rest are from this year), US Government and Politics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought my Common App essay was a great look at the skill set, work ethic, principles, and beliefs I’m going to bring with me to college and I used some recent, difficult experiences I’ve had to highlight how these traits have grown and developed. My ILR essay showed both a passion for the social sciences and the desire to study the social sciences with a particular emphasis on going beyond the theoretical and applying what I learn to the real world, specifically the world of work. I showed an understanding of the impact that labor and labor related issues have on my personal perspective and the perspective of the world as a whole.
[] Teacher Recs: Everybody else always says “Outstanding!” in this category and I’m sure they truly believe that but, while I’m strong in the subjects they teach, vigorously participate in class, and get along with my teachers…I’m not anyone’s “favorite student”. They were probably strong, but not mind blowing.
[] Counselor Rec: He seems to like me a lot. I have a strong grasp on the college search/admission process and am very independent. It seems a lot of kids at my school still have the umbilical cord attached.
[] Hook (if any): Not really a hook. I’m not a URM or an athlete and I haven’t cured any diseases. The only possible “tipping factor” I can think of would be that I was open about being low income (discussed my family’s unemployment and moving to a new state a few days before soph year started in Common App) and that I have to work close to 40 hrs a week to help out with bills 'n such. Plus, for ILR, I’m on the debate team and have won a few public forum tourneys and am really, really involved in politics on a local, statewide, and national level (as seen through my ECs). Again, not a hook by any means, but stuff that could help.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Pennsylvania
[] School Type: Public, competitive for the region, but certainly not like the magnets some of you guys go to.
[] Ethnicity: White
[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Visited ILR and did an info session. Also went to the ILR open house a few months ago. Had my little National Merit College Notification thing sent to ILR (the collegeplans.org thing that anybody who gets commended gets to fill out, yeah, that). Definitely showed an interest in the school.
General Comments: Good luck to all. This was definitely a reach school and this just shows that fit is really what counts. Hope to see you guys up on the hill next fall!

Good luck everyone!!!
