@akashaka: Sort of weird that the LL was an actual letter. I would have thought it would be an email. I guess LL are still “traditional.” Where else you get in?

@APushed96 no where except Pitt haha. Got deferred at Harvard, wait listed at Caltech and rejected at MIT. This is such a relief!

Definitely not a genius here! I have a decent GPA and test scores, but nothing special compared to most of Cornell’s applicants. Honestly the main reason I think I got a likely letter is because I attended the CURIE Academy for Women in Engineering at Cornell over the summer (as well as an Optics camp at U of R), and wrote about that in my application. At any rate, I’m happy! Also got into Pitt, Case Western & UB. It’s so weird that as soon as I hear back from my other schools I’ll have to make this huge decision…

@akashaka: Getting waitlisted at hard schools it pretty awesome. What you do your research on?

@APushed96 Thanks, I was pretty relieved to get waitlisted at Caltech actually (because I thought it meant I had a chance at MIT but I guess not lol). I did my research on building circuits at the interface of oxide heterostructures… it sounds complicated but its really just drawing wires onto this cool material to make tiny, tiny circuits. And these nanocircuits have interesting properties because they are so tiny. For my Cornell supplement, I actually wrote the cursive word “Cornell” as a wire connecting two electrodes. My role in the research was designing the software that controls the movement of the AFM tip (which acts as the “pen” drawing the wire) and making a simulator that allows my research group to visualize the writing of these circuits. Sorry if this sounds really complex! I explained it a little better in my supplement haha… :)

Got a likely from Cornell as well. It was such a relief after I got rejected from MIT but I actually almost deleted the e-mail because I thought it was some random encouragement to go visit the school. lol

Looks like Cornell poaches on MIT rejects like us :D

MIT rejects unite! I was rejected EA, so getting a likely was bittersweet, but more sweet than bitter

I received the diversity hosting letter on march 14 at 4:20pm as well that says “This special invitation is extended to you because of your strong academic and personal record and because you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2018.” Does this mean im getting accepted? Im asking since I still have not received an acceptance letter…

@jmarts pretty sure you’re in. It says you are. Good Job!!! Thumbs up! I guess you can relax now, just don’t hit senioritis as hard as I just hit it a few weeks ago. I’m pulling myself out of it right now lol.

If you live in Texas, do you still think there’s a possibility i might get likely letter within the next week?

^Definitely. You’ve still got a shot.

What about CA? San Jose area?

but didn’t likely letters come out through email first…

@roxy481 really? did they all come out simultaneously, regardless of one’s location?

not sure, but I would think they’d mass email everyone first and then send out physical letters, which would get to people depending on location. just a speculation though

Eh, pretty sure I didn’t get one anyway :P

This is sort of a side question to all the Indian people out there. Did you guys watch Dhoom 3? It was the best movie out there. OH MY GOD.

@APushed96 that was pretty random. But, I didn’t get a chance to see it in the theater. I really want to watch it though - is it out on DVD/online(HD) yet? We should prob. PM since this is a Cornell thread. awk.

For those who received a likely letter, which colleges did you apply to? Has anyone who applied to CALS received a likely letter?
