@girlygirl22 @magnificent6
I also recieved the handsigned letter but it was worded very vaguely as simply a “thank you.”
I do not want to read too much into this letter thing because there is a strong possibility that it is nothing more than a simple PR move but the good number of people that got the letter last year all got in in the end. I have not seen a discrepancy in that yet but I would not look too much into it because one could always ask why they don’t just send a Likely Letter than instead of this?

Also, most Cornell Likely Letters go out March, as per years past.

@matrixsurgeon @magnificent6 I understand your points but w/ not even enough knowledge to make a general statement like “it goes to everyone” I conclude it is a pretty good sign especially with a school of ~1400 applicants. I feel the letter would be common knowledge it has dated back to 2006 from my research and no one knows still…

Then again we are applicants so why not a little hope? :)

@Girlygirl22
You are right on that one I’ll admit! There is nothing wrong with a little bit of hope!

@matrixsurgeon I was browsing the CLass 2016 thread and most of these people who stated they recieved the letter were accepted the other 2-3 just stopped posting so no way to know. But it does verify that not everyone got it <a href=“Cornell RD Class of 2016 Discussion Thread - #226 by juliaann - Cornell University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1272945-cornell-rd-class-of-2016-discussion-thread-p16.html
I know it’s not 100% concrete but some more data to compare

@Girlygirl22
I found the same thing when I looked back the past two years’ threads. We shall see what the letter might mean for our year come March 27th! But at the very least, a letter is better than no letter.

Is it only for human ecology people?

@agreatperhaps13
I believe so. However, the Likely Letter system applies for most of the colleges at Cornell.

@everyone
How do you guys feel about the upcoming month? It is hard to believe how fast the months have gone and within a month or so, we will have an important decision to make, hopefully with a ton of options. This might weird but I have a “bring it on” kind of attitude to March 27th because I know that my chances are slim but I am ready with whatever happens because I have a great option in case I don’t get in to any of my other RD Schools.

I hate that I have to wait another month. I have so many real things which I need to focus on like APs and a big model UN conference in the city that it is really stressful not knowing what is going on with college. I almost would rather have been rejected ED and know what I’m doing for sure than have to play this waiting game.

@Darthelmet: I hate the wait-game too. I am trying to be fixated on something else. As for me, I don’t even want to deal with “OHOHO CHANCE MEEEE” threads. I feel that just puts expectations of success and it is like opening a Pandora’s box. But meh, that is just me. Would you go to Cornell if you got in? I infer that you would?

Either way, you’re pretty cool considering you like Space Balls!

Yeah I’ll definitely go if I get in. Besides it being the only Ivy I can afford, (NYS discount) the description for the ILR school basically lines up exactly with the image I had in my head for what I wanted to do. Government, economics, business, law, etc all rolled into a nice package.

I don’t get those “Chance me.” Threads either. How the hell would a random person on the internet know what the college is looking for or its applicant pool?

And yes, space balls is an amazing movie. I’m always happy when someone recognizes it. I can’t tell you how many people try to pronounce it as “Dart-Helmet” in games and stuff.

CAS for bio! Good luck!

I applied to CALS for Biology and Society ED and was deferred. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get in. Though I had an ACT of 35, Cornell required all scores so I had to send my 2090 SAT-I took it again in January and raised it to a 2210, so hopefully that helps (and they consider it).

As far as other acceptances, I got an early write from Grinnell College early this month + lots of merit money. At least one admission committee likes me, haha!

Good luck to all the others applying, and especially those who also got deferred ED.

Yeah, the Ivy league schools are especially good for law and business. I remember in my interview that the start-up culture is pretty huge at Cornell. I want to form a start-up when there. I have formed one with my friends called Catenary Inc. and now we have to file taxes!

What do you guys think is a good composite Sat score ?

@RaghavSrikanth
To be honest, it is all relative. A “Good” SAT or ACT score depends on many factors: your college list, your personal goal, where you will be using those scores, etc. I imagine that because you are on this thread you are applying to Cornell University? For most of the top 20-30 schools, anything above a 2100/32 gets your foot through the door. Obviously the higher the better (there is never a negative to higher scores) but to be honest as long as you are in that range, that portion of your application will be ok. You can easily find 25th-75th percentiles of SAT and ACT scores for all the schools in the country. Cornell’s overall range for that is 29-33 I believe.

My opinion: 2100/32+ gets you to the gate, 2200/34+ is great, and 2300/35+ is amazing. Thankfully I am fortunate enough to score pretty high (although I still say that luck is a part of that) so I know that I don’t have to worry about that being a red flag on my application.

I am at 2170. I could have gotten a 2240 if I didn’t screw up on my math section. But I am hoping Cornell looks at my Math II score, which is 800. ACT is 32, which is by far not the best, but not the worst either.

@APushed96
2170 to 2240 is not that big of a difference and because you say you got a 800 on the math 2 I am sure they will disregard your low SAT 1 math section score. I think that your scores are really good and on par with pretty much every school in the country! I only submitted the ACT because my area is big on ACT and I took it multiple times.

Hey I applied for Information Science to CoE with alternate in CAS.
Do likely letters come by email or snail-mail?

Anyone who has applied to the CAS? Did you guys have interviews? I am an international here and was wondering if international students are being offered interviews…
