I feel the same way even having been waitlisted. I just can’t figure out colleges. There seems to be no sure way of knowing your chances. You could have perfect test scores and a bunch of other stuff and still get rejected.

Sorry but I don’t see how one can “feel bad” about his scores after he gets in. I’d be freaking overjoyed (feeling good about myself) if i get in a top tier school with subpar scores.

What I mean Colene is I’m definitely overjoyed and so happy don’t get me wrong at all! and I know that those scores represent me also, I don’t really think I should have/would have gotten a higher score or something in a different situation and it’s not like I’m ashamed of them, it’s just I have friends who did better who didn’t get into Ivy’s like Cornell (most likely for different reasons) and also a lot of people who did way better who did get in.
I mostly just meant to say that I know I have strong points that really “got me into” Cornell but since SAT’s are such a measure of your general intellectual ability, when people get way above me I feel that they were smart enough that they deserve to get into the school to.

[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): --

Reflection
[ *] Strengths: I am fairly certain that the reason why I was accepted was because of my essays and my passion (so cliche) for birds. Cornell’s lab of ornithology is probably the best in the nation, maybe even the world, so I think that my interest in working there gave me an edge. I guess my grades are alright, too, since my class is very competitive. I’ve been told that my volunteering work is impressive.
[ *] Weaknesses: My test scores and AP scores aren’t great, and I don’t want to contradict what I said previously, but I definitely wrote my essays at the last minute.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: On my “Why Cornell?” essay, I gave very specific reasons why Cornell’s orni lab appealed to me and how I would like to work with some of the professors there.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Indiana University (Bloomington) with pretty much full ride merit scholarships, waitlisted at UChicago and Northwestern, rejected at HPS, UPenn, and Johns Hopkins.

General Comments: Make sure you let your dream college(s) know what you love about the school! Do not be afraid to make your interests show, even if they might not be considered incredibly intellectual or mainstream. Do some research on the colleges you intend to apply to, there is a wealth of information available online. Finally, don’t be immediately discouraged by less than stellar test scores, college admissions truly is a holistic process so as long as one excels in other areas, it’ll all be OK. :)

Does anyone know when waitlist results come out? Specifically for the college of engineering?

Waitlist acceptances have been posted in other threads for CAS, ILR, CALS, Hotel, and I think even Architecture and Art, but nothing yet for the College of Engineering. :(

^I hope it’s because they haven’t sent them out yet, and not because there aren’t any people taken off the waitlist for engineering…

Oh, also, does anyone know when Cornell stops accepting people from the waitlist? does it continue into June?

Well said…also hanging in on the ILR wait list. Are you certain about the Guaranteed Transfer??? Will ALL of us who are still on the wait list receive a GT notification??? Fingers crossed at least for that!!!

General Comments:
[ul]
[] I am pleased to be going to Brown University in the Fall of 2012.
[] There seems to be quite a bit of randomness in the evaluation process at schools where the acceptance rates are very low.
[li] I took all of the application essays very seriously because my lowest SAT score was in writing. Brown’s app was the one with the most essays which might be why Brown was the only Ivy (out of the seven that I applied to) that accepted me.[/li][/ul]</not>
