Official Cornell Transfer 2011

Hi Spring 2011 Cornell Transfer Applicants,

Now that the deadline has passed I wanted to create a thread for students who applied to Cornell University as Transfers. Please feel free to share any information that might be useful to others.

What school did you apply to and major?

Myself:

College of Arts and Sciences, Sociology Major.

Hey guys, I wonder if I’d have a shot at applying?
My HS stats were beyond terrible, <2.0 GPA, and never took the SATS, but all this was cause I never went to class and didn’t care, had like 70 absences senior year. However, I do consider myself very intelligent (not trying to be arrogant, just showing my capability to succeed university coursework). Many of my friends who go to UCLA and other UCs and such consider me to be the smartest person they know. Anyways, here are my stats!

Major: Biology/Pr-med

-CCC (California Community College) GPA: 3.82 right now (2 B’s, 1 from HS when I didn’t care ;]), 3.9 by Winter. 1 was in Sociology, the other in Child Dev (lol)

Units: 75 UC transferable units complete by Spring (Don’t know how many transfer to Cornell)

-Completion of my Schools Honors Program

-I think I’ll have pre-reqs done, I have 1 yr Gen Bio, 1 yr Chem, 1 Yr Calc, 1 semester of o-chem done by Spring.

SAT/ACT-None, I registered to take the ACT for October 12th, but doubt I have time to study for it, or even take the test (I have class on saturdays).

ECS: 100+ hrs clinical community service at VA hospital (aiming for 300 by Spring)
Secretary of a Biology Club Fall Semester, Honors Club, Phi Thetta Kappa Committee Director, Pessa Club (Pre-medical/engineering/math club etc…), also won a Gold Medal in the San Fernando Youth Olympics (Just a sporting event in which HS’s in the area participate) in 100 M dash. I also can play the guitar, drums, and piano (Not amazing in any), I also am a Gymaholic lols.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Ahhh, we meet again harvardhop! I am applying to Cornell CAS for the spring as well!

Have anything showed as received on your application status? I sent my materials in a while ago and it still showing “not received”

I was going to transfer my Spring semester, but decided against it because I really wanted to spend time on my application. Keep me up to date on your decisions! I hope the best for you two! (:

Hello guys, its my first here on college confidential. I am an international undergraduate student interested in transferring to Cornell in Fall 2011.

Shedding some light on my college record-

I was initially enrolled at DePauw university for Fall 2009, but I had the worst college start there. I was enrolled in 4 classes (14 credits) namely Psy 100, Calculus 2, College writing 2 and American Islam (first year seminar). I failed in 3 of them and got a D in my seminar. I got academically suspended. I accept full responsibility for what happened.

I than moved to Linn Benton community college (LBCC) in Oregon and took 15 credits( SOC 204,GEOG 202 Physical Science 104 and CH 221). I ended up with a 3.9

24 credits (Psy 201, Physics 201, WR 121, Political Science 204, Hist 201, SPN 101 and Religion 102). I ended with a 4.0.

I did my summer 2010 semester at Oregon State University, took 16 credits ( Math 252, Communication 111, ST 201, ECON 202 and a physical education class). I ended up with a 3.81.

I am doing my Fall 2010 semester LBCC and am registered for ANTH 103, ART 204, ECON 201,ENG 104,SPN 102 and MUS 108. The semester is going pretty smooth and am expecting a good result.

SAT-1800

I am not sure how the fact that I go to an out-of-state community college will affect my transfer application. If it helps in any way or makes my app any stronger I can transfer and do my winter and spring 2011 semester at Oregon State University (OSU). The only reason why I was holding off my plan to transfer for Fall 2010 is because I thought changing schools so many times will act in my disadvantage in the application process.

My intended major is Economics and want to apply to college of arts and sciences. I am not sure what kind of a chance I stand in getting into Cornell. But the dramatic change in my academic record is evident.

It would be great if you guys could let me what kind of chances I stand and also let suggest some suitable schools for me. I am already considering a couple of them.

Thanks

Correction-

The 24 credits is for Spring 2011 semester at LBCC.

Hi Harvard,
I too APPLIED to CORNELL for SPRING 2011 admissions so I appreciate your making this thread for a decidedly small group.

Me:
CAS: Psychology

@Bullmarket: I don’t think I know what you’re talking about. Are you talking about on the Common App website? Please let me know, I hope I didn’t forget anything.

@Everyone else: This is a Cornell Spring 2011 Transfer Thread only!!!

@Literarylover: You’re welcome. Seems like there’s competition here ; ). Does anyone know how many students they accept for CAS? BTW, I hope we all get in.

@06122010: Thanks, Good luck when you apply! Let us know how your application is going.

I called and I believe the number was around 30, though they receive fewer Spring applicants than they do for the Fall.

Nice, is it 30 for Fall and Spring combined? or, just Spring?

@harvardhop, I was talking about your application status on the self service system (applicantID).

@literarylover…wow 30 applicants? Is this only for CAS, or other schools as well?

@Bullmarket: What’s applicantID? Aww…Ok, I need to check this out pronto.

I think it’s CAS only…(I hope)

Sorry, that was just for CAS spring, I should have been more clear. Don’t worry, they take plenty more applicants!

Cornell should send you an email containing your applicant ID and activation code regarding your application status. When did you turn in your application?

literarylover, have you logged into your self service system yet?

I sent it on friday (oct.1). Maybe that’s why.

When did you submit yours? Bullmarket?
