boardingkid,

I am in the same boat as you. I need to reply to my other schools soon. I hope this doesn’t stretch out till December…I would hate to loose the deposit.

From what I’ve heard, people usually get the emails first. Then they would send a package for you regarding your acceptance. I don’t remember about rejection though… :S

Email from Admission Administrative Coordinator

“Your application became complete and was forwarded to our college for review. We, however, are unable to render a decision until we receive your mid-year grades. Please arrange to have those grades sent to our office as soon as possible using the form available off the Common Application website or via the Undergraduate Admissions website ([Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions Office -HOW TO APPLY](http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/applications.cfm#transfer)). You may fax this form to my attention.”

I called in and a lady said my app was forwarded to review a week-ish ago without my midterm report. I assumed that it was because my overall gpa wasn’t good (messed up really badly 1 semester 2.X lol) they were just going to reject me haha. But I had a 4.0 last semester, and a 4.0 midterm report. I’m finishing up my last 2 pre-req courses for AEM and 2 for Communications, and 1 elective this semester. Have mostly A’s in all pre-reqs, with 2 B’s.

So I guess like harvardhop said, this email isn’t from an admissions officer…and fri3nds04 said they probably want to check my current pre-req grades…Thus this email doesn’t mean anything right? lol I was kinda excited for a sec

Not necessarily. They may see something in you. Or else they would have rejected you right away, right? but again don’t keep your hope too high :)

Hey, I am thinking about transfering and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it would be worth it for me to apply to Cornell CAS in Econ or Gov (or both).

Sophomore applying for Fall 11
GPA: 3.96 right now. Hopefully 3.9-4.0 by the end of this semester
HS GPA: 93 or 94 can not remember
SAT: 1280/1600 do not remember writing but it was around 600.
Lots of ECCs in high school, Winner of national business competition
Lot of ECs in College. In the Honors program at a pretty good public University. Officer of International Relations Club, in Model UN, participate in running honors college events etc.

I’m sorry If I burst your bubble, I didn’t in any way mean to do this. I would suggest you to believe in yourself, and If you think you are in a acceptable academic standing then get your hopes up. I’m telling you this, because I was in your shoes when I applied to the school I am right now (If you want to know PM). I called their admissions officers a lot and I still remember when I received a call from one of the admission officers and he told me that they needed a document (which is odd, because I am going through the same thing with Cornell) to be sent. For some strange reason, I felt I had already been accepted. Two weeks later I get accepted! again, I apologize.

“However they also said some decisions are made without the midterm report (i’m guessing if the application is really strong or weak.”"

Since some decisions are made, has anyone contacted the committee about the release date?

Wil it be bad idea to ask them for already-made decision, in case it is?

Just have to wait a bit longer I personally don’t think they are going to release the decision if you ask personally :)

I want to know, if i can drop the required class or not, the deadline to drop is on thursday.

Thanks for the help guys and harvardhop don’t apologize - I much rather get an realistic view of things rather than the alternative. I honestly didn’t think I had a chance at Cornell but applied regardless. Now that I have a speck of hope I’m really excited. I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up but I can’t help myself haha.

I called my mom all excited and said “Cornell didn’t reject me right away!!”
Mom: “What!? you got accepted to Cornell!! oh my congratulations!!”
Me: “No mom…they…just didn’t reject me yet…”
Mom: “…”

lol :(

Too bad the rejection will hurt that much more now… bleh
Anyways I looked at last year’s thread and it looks like people started getting their decisions in the beginning of November. For CALS anyways.

@YeastDNA: I agree with fri3nds04 - they probably won’t release anything even if they made some decisions. If they did it for one person and other people somehow find out they’ll have a constant stream of phonecalls. So…you probably have to finish the required course if you really want Cornell. I have to take frickin physics for my ALTERNATE major in COMMUNICATIONS and I suck at math and physical science. It can’t be worse, can it?

Just got off the phone with the admissions office. They told me that if they received all the files (not including the mid-term report), they will send the application materials for review. The mid-term report, however, has to be sent at a later date. In addition, they send out decisions on a rolling basis starting November, which means that some people will know ahead of others… i think.

Any ranks of competitiveness for the different departments? Who knows what the competition is like for the Hotel School? Just curious haha

do not quote me on this and i really do not remember where I got this data from–i just found it in one of my books:

Spring 2010 Transfers

Admits: 131
Enrolled: 114
Total Applicants that applied: 449

CALS: 55/114 enrolled

roughly 30% admitted of total Spring Apps, so Im guessing that Spring Transfer has a low app pool.

Fall 2010
Admits: 702 out of 3,184 apps and total enrolled: 542
total Fall and Spring Applicants: 3,633 and admitted: 833 with roughly 656 accepting the offer to join Cornell. Hope this helps–and I hope it’s the right info.

@leebruce

-directly from cornell division of planning and budget-

Fall 2010 external transfers (not sure, but assuming these figures include GT’s)

Arts & Sciences: 144/1018 (14%)
Architecture, Art & Planning: 17/106 (16%)
Engineering: 62/264 (23%)
Hotel Administration: 65/197 (33%)
Human Ecology: 66/175 (38%)
Agriculture & Life Sciences: 313/715 (44%)
ILR: 134/229 (59%)

So Hotel has a pretty good transfer rate. I heard relevant work experience is pretty much a must.

Anyone else here applying to CALS?
If so, what are your stats? I just really want to get out of the public system here in NYC and wanna see if I have a chance =/

What would you say were my chances if I got a 3.8 GPA, (4.0 gpa last semester) and am in a internship with columbia medical center and mt. sinai hospital?

kevlar I am going to apply to CALS. Your stats are better than mine. I have a 3.65 gpa, but I work two jobs and take heavy course loads at once. This may explain why my gpa isn’t as high. I personally think your stats are pretty good, because cornell usually accepts transfers with a 3.8+. On the other hand, I am not sure if I am considered ivy league material. I am a vet intern and have a passion for agriculture and science. I am going to apply as a junior level applicant. I have all A’s in my prereqs for a Biology major. I’m also president of phi theta kappa international honor society at a two year college. I’m not sure that I will get accepted, but I think you will personally.

CALS Biology Major applying for Fall 2011.

@BoardingKid, Tallfrodo

Thanks for the info guys!

Just one more week and some of us will be notified with the decision resultssssss alreadddyyyy ahhh cant waittttt

@CrownOftheSea
Youre applying to the hotel school right? have you sent in all your stuff already? =P

@kevlar

your stats are awesome haha, especially for CALS. For CALS if you complete all the prereq courses, demonstrate fit and interest, and have a 3.5+ you shouldn’t worry too much. prereqs and fit are incredibly important though. its not so easy for impacted majors like AEM and bio, but with your GPA, I think you should be set :)

Good luck everyone! :)

My applicatiom was sent for review! =)

awesome, good luck harvardhop!
