Official Cornell University 2013 Early Decisions Thread

Echo094, I feel for you, man… I was really hoping I’d get in, but alas it wasn’t meant to be… Our GPA’s / class ranks seem to be the only reason I could imagine, but does Cornell not care bout SAT’s at ALL? :/

But anyways, you still have a respectable app, so I think you have a great selection of potential colleges, it’s just one off the list. Gotta stay positive. =]

i still love Cornell!!

This will probably get lost in the all the decisions, but just some advice for those that got flat out rejected.

I got flat out rejected from Cornell during my senior year of high school. I was very disappointed. But I went to my state school, ogt a 4.0, and transferred to Cornell for my last 3 years and graduated at the top of my class. You may not spend 4 years there, but Cornell is probably the easiest elite school to transfer into. So remember that option!

Decision: Accepted to CAS!

Stats:
[ *] SAT: 2340 (CR: 800, M: 770, W: 770)
[ *] SAT IIs: 710 US History and Chemistry, 700 Lit
[ *] GPA: 3.94 UW, 4.65 W
[ *] Rank: N/A, but I’d say top 10% at least.
[ *] Other stats: Four 4s and 1 5 on AP exams, 6 on IB SL Chemistry

Subjective:
[ *] Essays: Pretty good, I’d say - the CAS-tailored one was great.
[ *] Teacher Recs: Amazing
[ *] Counselor Rec: Amazing
[ *] Hook (if any): IB Diploma candidate, Asian applying for Theatre Arts (like, for real?)

Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: Maryland
[ *] School Type: Public
[ *] Ethnicity: Chinese
[ *] Gender: Female

Other Factors: National Merit Semifinalist, Maryland Distinguished Scholars Semifinalist, library volunteer, did lighting, set decoration, acted, and co-chiefed sound for our drama club since sophomore year, Tri-M Honors Society secretary, International Space Settlement Design Club VP/Automations Co-Lead (our school won first place in competition last year), restarted our school’s colorguard and served as captain, etc.

General Comments: Cornell has been my dream school for forever and I’m so excited that I’ve actually gotten in  Congratulations to everyone else who got accepted and to those who didn’t, don’t worry. With the stats that you guys have, I’m sure you’ll get into other amazing schools! Looking forward to meeting everyone in the fall!

Decision: Accepted - CAS

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2200 (670v 750m 780w)
[] SAT IIs: 770 chem, 760 MathII, 710 Bio-M
[] GPA: 3.85 UW

[] Hook (if any): None
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: NH
[] School Type: Public

[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Overall I think I was just a solid overall applicant. My ECs weren’t amazing and I didn’t really have any leadership roles but I did devote a significant amount of time to a few sports and activities. Overall I was really happy with my essays and an obscure interest of mine made my supplement relate well to my future major and I really like how it turned out.
General Comments: So excited to be going to Cornell, a dream come true! It feels so good to have this whole college process over with. Cornell 2013!

seems like number of pp get accepted is quite high

Just wondering, which college is the most difficult to get into in Cornell? I’ve seen CAS stated a few times, but I’d like to confirm.

I’m rather surprised at the results. There seems to be quite the handful of people getting deferred or rejected when they have outstanding test scores and grades, and mediocre EC’s (or better).

Does Cornell cater to an interest in the liberal arts? (I’m sorry if this is a stupid question; I never really threw myself into discovering every tidbit there is to know about Cornell ^^;; )

people who get rejected will be less likely to come back here and advertise it, but I wouldn’t doubt above average acceptance from CCers.

**Decision: Rejected (AEM…go figure) **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2090 CR: 660 WR: 670 M: 760
[] SAT IIs: Math II: 800 Physics: 690
[] GPA: 94% average (IB Diploma) (Canadian)
[] Rank: unranked
[] Other stats:none
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: pretty good. everyone who read them liked them a lot. probably above average
[] Teacher Recs: great but probably not extraordinary
[] Counselor Rec: excellent
[] Hook (if any): none
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Canada
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Indo-Canadian
[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]**Other Factors: I did not have a biology course, which was a requirement for CALS…don’t know why that’s necessary for AEM though. **
**General Comments: It was good while it lasted definitely learnt a lot from it. Congratulations to those accepted…BIG READ FLOWS THROUGH YOUR VEINS NOW! haha and of course best of luck to those deferred and rejected for the near future. **

Congrats to EVERYONE!!!

Decision: ACCEPTED - CALS

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2090 (670 Crit, 740 Math, 680 Writ, but this isn’t my normal range; I tested again in November and got a 2310 with 770 Crit, 740 Math, and 800 Writ but I didn’t send these scores to Cornell because I thought for sure it was too late)
[] SAT IIs: 800 Math IIC, 760 BioM, 630 Lit :frowning:
[] GPA: 4.00+, can’t remember exactly
[] Rank: no rank
[] Other stats: 5 AP Bio, 5 AP World Hist, 5 AP English Lang, 4 AP US Hist
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: commonapp was okay, in my opinion. I procrastinated on my supplement essay until like 3 a.m. four days before Nov 1 so it was probably terrible…
[] Teacher Recs: I didn’t read them
[] Counselor Rec: I didn’t read it
[] Hook (if any): I participate in a national hawkwatch group! we document the numbers of migratory birds of prey that fly over our hotspot every year.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA, USA
[] School Type: tiny charter school
[] Ethnicity: Chinese (didn’t note)
[li] Gender: F[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I have almost no ECs because my tiny charter school literally has NO sports/student gov/clubs/all that jazz. I was worried about this but explained everything in the ‘other comments’ essay.
General Comments: I am still spazzing out about this. this is the happiest day of my life. I still almost can’t believe it and I’ve pinched myself 5 times…I’ve wanted to go to Cornell since junior high, so this is a big deal for me, and I was just bawling in the computer lab when I found out, hahaa. I hope I wasn’t too obnoxious, but part of me just doesn’t care.

Haven’t been on here in forever…forgot my password.

good job, guys!

I can’t quite believe it. I keep going back to the site and checking my decision letter - I’m afraid I’ll wake up. I’ve been working for this day for over two years.

I ordered a sweatshirt from the Cornell online store. A red one. :)

How do we get to the online store!! I want one now lol!!

[Clothes & Gifts](http://csop.cbs.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/webc.exe/st_main.html?p_catid=1)

Tada! I clicked around until I got it narrowed to the clothes section.

anyone knows how much is the percentage of waitlisted people getting admitted later on for Cornell?

I actually recommend IvySport.

Decision: Accepted CoE
No need to post stats; they were by far good enough and no one reads them anyways except for the damn SAT score.
Ill see you all in Ithaca next fall!
