General Comments: I can’t believe that after 4 years of hard work, it finally all paid off. For all of you that are going to apply in the future, dream big. Don’t get caught up in the mess that is CC. There’s nothing that can guarantee you admission, just try your hardest. Always remember that you’ll ultimately end up where you were meant to go. When I took my PSAT sophomore year, I did horribly for CC’s standards (166). I improved dramatically over the past 2 years. I honestly was as intimidated as you probably are when I first saw decision threads. If I can do it, you can do it. Never lose hope. To those that were denied admission, you were all very impressive and you’ll find a great school regardless of what happened today. To those accepted, I will be seeing you in the fall!! Cornell baby, Cornell!!!

stats ltr!

Jeez, CC Cornell-EDers on the whole did really well this year. I wonder if Cornell is taking more of its class early this year - or maybe the CC selection of applicants is just really lucky.

I haven’t seen a single Human Ecology decision except mine which was a deferral… I didn’t see HumEc applicants doing well/not well.
It seems like a ton of out-of-staters got into Cornell, while in-staters applying to contract colleges didn’t?
This is strange.

it could just be a coincidence, or perhaps cornell is trying to make more space between their affliliation with NYS with all the political garbage being tossed around, let alone the budget crisis we are facing

It is not strange. out of staters need to pay higher tuitions. Cornell is probably trying to guarantee X number of out of staters during ED, and picking up in staters during RD.

So you guys think that, as a deferred ED applicant to HumEc from instate, I’ll have a decent shot RD?

Yes of course, just make sure you keep an interest with them

Oh and OldForge- that sounds very possible. Good thinking!

I’m from NY (and not even the rich New York City kind of NY. Redneck NY.), and I got into CALS.

It seems like Cornell didn’t put nearly as much emphasis on SATs this year - particularly on SAT IIs. Maybe that means that during RD, they’ll go for more high SAT-scorers (to keep their SAT averages up).

Decision: Rejected

Stats:
SAT: 730 CR 730 M 800 W
SAT IIs: 790 Math II 750 Chemistry
GPA: 3.9
Rank: top 5%
Other stats: 5 on AP Calc BC, US History, Stat, Chem
Hook (if any):

Location/Person:
State or Country: NY
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Other Factors: Track Team captain, Debate Team, Summer Volunteer work

I looked on the Facebook Cornell '13 group and not a single Human Ecology kid who got accepted was from NY: they were all out-of-state.
Hmm. Maybe I have a prayer RD.

whoever commented on the views of this thread is right: 33,482.
that’s a lot!

anyway, congrats to all of you who were accepted. Cornell is an awesome place and I am sure it will serve you well!
if you have been deferred but are still devoted to the school, let them know it. it will help your chance of being accepted later on.
to those rejected, particularly those who have been posting here a lot: I enjoyed getting to know you online. you seem like excellent people who will shine in college wherever you go. best of luck to you!

jimbluecheese, how you were rejected is beyond me… I mean, are top of the class, incredible SAT/AP scoring students with solid EC’s not good enough for Cornell? I don’t understand the admission process. I can understand why I’d be rejected, but there were many people who were highly eligible and competitive who got turned down this year. It’s just odd…
