i am right there with you guys. i dont know if i should check it as soon as i come home from school or at night, i cant handle a rejection or deferment.

Oh, so I checked out the Cornell 2012 ED's, and they're not TOO bad, I don't think. I mean, you got a lot of mediocre kids getting in. That thread's just proof that Cornell really does look at something beyond stats.

And note about those high scorers who got deferred or rejected: a lot of them had high Writing SAT scores, which brought their scores up, and which Cornell DOESN'T look at.

Someone in the 2012 thread made a good point worth posting.

"to all of you who are complaining about how you have amazing sat scores, and either got rejected or deferred... you need to realize that to schools like cornell, your sat scores are probably one of the least important components of your application... why would they base your admission solely on one test that you took? they're going to look at your high school career as a whole, and sat scores aren't the best summary of the past four years of your life... they're going to care about activities you were involved in, the academic rigor of your schedule, your gpa. they want to see indications of passion and motivation for your particular field... the only real purpose of the consideration of your sat scores is to make sure that you're within a certain range. the only time that something like that would make or break your application is if you were being closely compared to another similar applicant."

I hope I fall in that spectrum since I really have a passion for aerospace engineering and pretty much wrote both my essays on it. Hope it wasn't too much passion >.<

god cornell should just consider the writing section of the sat...i mean, they require the writing portion of the ACT, right? so what the heck?? to think that my 800 w score is going to waste... :(

Hey guys! I just want to wish you all good luck.. I know its SUPER nerve wracking - I applied early last year. And I want you all to know to just keep on trying hard, no matter what happens! If you get deferred, dont be too depressed. I cried my eyes out last year when I was deferred, certain I'd be rejected in the Spring, and then it turned out they gave me a guaranteed transfer! Not the acceptance I wanted, but now, a year later, I'm really happy in the school I'm in, but I still plan on going in the fall and I'm super excited it's coming up so fast. And if you get rejected, pick yourself up and move on! There are plenty of schools out there, and to be honest, once you get to college in the fall, you're going to forget all about the schools you obsessed over the year before. And don't take it too hard - you just simply weren't the right fit for Cornell, but like I said, there are plenty of places where you WILL be the right fit. Don't be upset or angry, or rather, when you are upset an angry, channel it and just use it to work harder and move ahead in life. And if you hold grudges, in 50 years when you're the next Bill Gates, you can rub it in Cornell's face! And if you get accepted.. lucky bastards, congratulations!! :)

Oh and word to the wise, the site with the results is probably going to crash. Last year I didn't get on until 9 or 10, a good 5 hours after they released it. I literally was DYING knowing my results were out there but I couldn't access them.. Hopefully they'll do a better job of it this year? I was surprised last year by the spring results because those were released with no problem, and I got my answer right away, even with the thousands more RD kids checking..

and Cornell has outsourced its decision posting to another website with larger servers. so they are expecting the new site to hold its ground against all the eager applicants this year :P

December 19th grantortue...? Wow, this year's date is way earlier even though Cornell got more applicants.
Hopefully the server won't crash this year.

last year's delay really messed with my dinner eating!!!! I love to eat but I was all nervous. Cornell it was the first but certainly not the last time my food consumption habits have been ruined by you!

also whoever's complaining about the 800 W...just think you can remember that the rest of your life! you can be like "maybe I am 30 and my life is all messed up because I didn't get into Cornell but I got a 800 W" and then you can smile and return to your messed up life.
