Good Luck to everyone who is awaiting decisions and those who will apply next year! Unfortunately, not everyone can go to the college of their choice, but, you can be successful wherever you go.

Wait, how do you all know of your decisions already? Don’t they come out on March 30th?

Some folks who applied to the contract colleges get acceptances before then. This is known as “rolling” admissions. I was one of those folks last year.

Got accepted to School of Hotel Administration on March 7th, though the letter was sent out March 1st. I’m all the way in California; very scared of moving all the way across the country!

You should be fine. There are probably plenty of folks from all over California among your year. Heck, some Californians I know hadn’t even seen snow before and they still enjoyed the place.

State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: public, very good reputation
Ethnicity: first generation African-American
Gender: female
Income Bracket: $150,000-200,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

Reflection
Strengths: I’m relatively proud of my essays. And my ethnicity is what it is I guess
Weaknesses: Test scores (taken only once, not recommended…), no work experience
Why you think you were accepted: Once again, I think my CAS essay really conveyed my passion for both wanting to attend Cornell specifically and studying what I plan to study there. Being accepted was definitely a (VERY pleasant) surprise though! Plus, being Ethiopian-American probably helped too, hahaa.
Where else were you accepted: As of now, UPitt, TCNJ, Rutgers, Wiliam & Mary, Ithaca College, UMass; waiting on Columbia, Princeton, GW, and Boston College

General Comments: Congrats to everyone already accepted and good luck to those still waiting! Also, for the future reference of others, I guess I’m proof the fact that test scores aren’t EVERYTHING. There are many ways to being impressive, but in the end, I would cheesily recommend just being yourself  Ithaca, here I come!

Congrats to all who got likely letters! Does anyone know if Art, Arch & Design ever sends out likely letters?

the posted stats for likely’s are giving my son some hope that he may have a chance to get in. He has a 31 ACT, high 700’s on Math 1, Math 2 and Bio SAT II’s and a 98uw GPA and is ranked 2 in his class of over 500. He has alot of EC’s including volunteering at the local hospital and is also a volunteer at the coroners office as a autopsy tech. His essay was on his autopsy experiences… kind of gross…but he thought that it would be somewhat unique. He applied to college of agricultural and life sciences. good luck to all

I am not an admissions pro, but it would seem that your son has an excellent chance. There is no rule to this stuff, his test numbers are better than mine and he has some good extra-curricular activities; and I’m Asian from NY with no what they call “hook” and got accepted to CAS with a likely letter a few days ago.

Reading through the information posted here about regular decision results, your son has a much better chance regular decision than had he applied early decision to cornell with that profile. Don’t get scared by the early decision profile of accepted students as getting in early at Cornell CAS is super difficult. My school, an NYC magnet, already has 2 asian kids this year with basically the best test scores and gpa possible get declined from Cornell early decision, only to receive an acceptance from Caltech and one likely letter from Harvard.

The so-called “unhooked” kids who get in early to CAS are likely the kind of applicants that could get in most anywhere. They probably know that but just wanted to go to cornell over other schools because of a particular attraction to a certain program at Cornell or the rural location which is great for nature lovers.

This year Cornell rejected a lot of high test score applicants early only to seemingly admit from the listings here many applicants with 2000 sat 29-30 act scores, average applicants at best. It just shows that admissions is holistic and getting in early is not easy. I’m Asian with noting more than average grades and scores (but did have a prestigious science award) and I got in regular. From the looks of things reported in threads at this site, I never would have made it in through early decision to a school like Cornell.

Your son has hope and will probably get in. Stay optimistic.

Dear goodness I applied to the school of Hotel Management and have heard nothing yet; should I expect the worst?

Did anyone get a likely for HumEc? I’m starting to lose hope… Lol

msbrilliant;

me too! i’m losing hope…:(

idonthaveany & msbrilliant: Dont lose hope! The likely letters are probably very discouraging and distracting but dont forget that OFFICIAL decisions dont come out till the 30th. It may seem like eveyone is getting one but CC is slanted. You guys Definitely still have a chance. Stay hopeful, if I got in then you guys most definitely still have a chance :)

So these likely letters…

So people who are “likely” to get accepted get them, but what about everyone else?
If I didn’t get a likely letter does that mean I am not getting accepted??!!

='(

Geez… this is really lame. Ten more days.

**
Strengths:** Well, gosh. I dunno. I didn’t expect to get in.
**Weaknesses: **Just about everything, lol. Weaker scores and GPA than most on this forum.
**Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: **I guess URM status? My scores are so below what Cornell expects that I didn’t think that I had a chance.
**Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: **Accepted to UCF, FSU, UF, Southeastern, and NYU.

General Comments: Cornell sent me a letter in the mail requesting my SAT II scores earlier this year…I freaked out because, like the idiot I am, I didn’t realize that Cornell required subject tests…I applied only to make my parents happy anyway. I didn’t think that I’d be considered without subject tests but…I got in, so that’s cool. Going to the University of Florida anyway.
