Good luck to you!!! You seem to have a lot of connections in Florida which will really help when you graduate.

Thank you for the kind words, englandern  Although everyone around me wants me to go to NYU or Cornell, I’m a lot more comfortable in state and it will be virtually free. I’m sure that I’ll love being a Gator ;)

Just overall interest in the school. I sent the school 2 extra supplements.

General Comments:

Best of luck to everyone who’s applying, and especially to everyone still waiting until April 1st. Send me a PM if you’d like  CORNELL 2015!

9 days…i dont even know why im counting down though, i am 99% sure when i open the computer screen it will say rejected. lol…but its nice to dream that i will get accepted, but highly doubt i will, oh well…

@allnycolleges, I haven’t been on CC long enough to know what the term means…they just sent me a letter letting me know that I will be offered admissions and inviting me to a diversity hosting event.

@ayanas, yes that’s a likely letter so congrats!

Collecting hotel models as a hobby, making spreadsheets, living in a hotel, spending the summer in holiday inn and shadowing room service people, the usual

@ayanas, I liked your background - picking University of Florida over NYU or Cornell, I am sure that UF is a perfect fit for you and what’s nice is that it is close to home for you. Go with your heart.
Good luck Gator!!!

So these likely letters…

So people who are “likely” to get accepted get them, but what about everyone else?
**If I didn’t get a likely letter does that mean I am not getting accepted??!! **

I think someone said the likely letters are to people who will bring diversity to Cornell

Grr… As repeated many times before:
If you did not get a likely letter, it doesn’t mean that you did not get accepted.
Also, it does not mean that you did get accepted (obvious, but just saying this).

There are even those who get the likely letters but are NOT accepted.
They are likely letters, not acceptance letters.

Find out on the 30th for the real letter.

@Supervisor, I’m confused then…someone above said that the letter I received was a “likely,” but it starts out:

Your application has been reviewed by the admissions selection committee and I am writing to let you know that you will be offered admission to Cornell. Although the Ivy League won’t officially notify students of their admissions decision until later this month, we wanted to share the good news with you now.

How would a student receive this letter and not be accepted?

People, this thread is for decisions only. Try to keep your extraneous discussions in other threads.

Now, to put the whole likely letter confusion to rest: “Likely letters” are sent only to the top applicants, minorities invited to DHW, and several top female engineering applicants. If you received a likely letter, you WILL be admitted to Cornell. If you did not receive one, that means nothing. You will find out whether you were accepted on March 30th, along with everyone else.

If I did not receive a likely letter, does that mean I won’t be accepted??

Not receiving a likely letter doesn’t indicate anything at all. You can still be admitted.

As PioneerJones stated above, people who receive likely letters are ADMITTED. Some guy from Cornell posted on here saying that. Why else would they send them?.. They are sent to the strongest applicants, but even if you didn’t get a likely letter, you could still be admitted.

By, “there are even those who get the likely letters but are NOT accepted” I do not mean specifically YOU.

I am going off of this story at my school:
Last year one person at my school received a likely letter from “______” but then when time came, that person got a rejection notification online. Calling to confirm, the person was informed that the computers “accidentally messed up”… yada yada.
So I hear!

Obviously your letter says, “you will be offered admission to Cornell,” so there’s no denying that you have been accepted (yay!).

I will slightly rephrase what I said:
If you did not get a likely letter, it doesn’t mean that you did not get accepted.
If you did get a likely letter, then there’s a 99.9999999999999999999999999% chance that you got accepted (especially when it says so on the likely letter).

**Oh!
Maybe you didn’t get what I was saying with:
“If you did not get a likely letter, it doesn’t mean that you did not get accepted.
Also, it does not mean that you did get accepted (obvious, but just saying this).”

That last sentence I probably should not have tacked in (obvious statement).
We all make mistakes. -.-

“… if you didn’t get a likely letter, you could still be admitted.”
That should have been my last sentence.
