Official Countdown to Move In Day 2016 Thread

Move In Day for several schools is fast approaching, and since today is Harry Potter’s birthday (the most notorious boarding school student in our history), I’ve made a thread for people to freak-out in.

Some people seem to be traveling to their first days in late August? I didn’t know schools even started that early! I don’t know about everyone else, but I have about 5 weeks left until I drive up to New Hampshire and so, so much to do to prepare! I have a summer job so I haven’t had the chance to sit down and think about it, but I’m sure the 38 days will disappear super fast.

I’ve chosen the snacks I’m bringing with me already-- wasabi peas, ginger snaps and some peppermint tea. I haven’t heard anything about which dorm I’ll be in, or if I’ll have a roommate so I haven’t gotten much stuff to decorate. Only basic things.

Well, ah, how about you guys?

@junemaybees long time no talk!! how’s summer?
I don’t think I’ll be bringing any snacks with me when school starts… and DEFINITELY not wasabi peas–but you’ll have to share the peppermint tea with me  .

I haven’t gotten anything about dorm stuff either but I read on past threads that for our school specifically, they came around august 11 last year.

@Anonymousia yesssssss August 11th I am so ready

Wasabi peas are amazing, I don’t know what you’re talking about. XD I’m bringing possibly 5 pounds of peppermint, we’ll be set for the whole year.

Summer’s been fun, if only a little stressful because of summer shenanigans (of course I couldn’t just relax).

Also, 37 days left! I’m driving up with my brother, my parents and (possibly) my sister, if she’s not busy doing adult stuff.

@2020person where did you find this? the most recent emails didnt include this just the basic scedule

@Center I didn’t get an email either, but go to the website under “Current Students” and it should be under “Calendars/Schedules”

@2020person thanks. they said housing assignments due mid August. have you heard anything?

@Center nothing yet, but I’ve been checking ExeterConnect everyday
I’ll tell you when I find out

@2020person we are checking too

They’re out @Center

@2020person yes and super unhappy. were they drinking when they made these decisions!

@Center They put a lot of thought into these decisions, trying to create a diverse dorm. If you have any preconceived notions about dorms, let them go. You cannot form opinions on a dorm based off of childish, outdated stereotypes. I’m sure your son will enjoy his dorm, and it’s important that he enjoys it- that is the only opinion that has huge weight. If he doesn’t like it, he can switch out. It’s no big deal.

@Center out of curiosity, what dorm is your son in? I have friends in all dorms and they all love it. I’m sure it’s a great dorm.

I’m in Webster, heard anything about it? I heard they just renovated the whole place so it should be nice

I got a double in Wheelwright…

@riceboy222 Webster is a huge dorm, but it’s very nice and quiet. A lot of my music friends are in Webster.

@Anonymousia if you’re entering as a prep, you have an 90% chance of getting a double, so that isn’t surprising. If you’re entering as a new lower, then it really depends on what dorm you’re in. I got a single, and so did the other new lower in my dorm, but I have friends in other dorms who had roommates as a lower.

thanks. Do you know why it’s quiet? Are the people there really studious?

@riceboy222 I’m not sure why. Just my opinion from having been in Webster to see teachers/friends in Webster. I’m sure you can ask a current resident though. Just shoot them an email.

@AMS0203 thanks! Are you still at exeter, or have you graduated?
