Official Countdown

So three seniors at my school including me applied ED to Penn. One of them I have 5 out of 6 periods with. And it's so funny because every time we hear Pennsylvania or if someone asks either of us where we applied we just look at each other kinda awkwardly and be like WELL I applied to Penn.. and so did they.

2 from my school including me.....i'm so tense right now...she has better SATs than i do....i dunno what to think.

dude i wanna go back to school!!!! being in school takes my mind off of Penn

haha 14 from my school overall (i know from my counselor), maybe 5 ED (we don't really talk about this stuff)

last year, two from my school got in, one wharton, once CAS...

holy cow! 14?? that's crazy. that's a lot of pressure...every year, usually 1 gets in from my school. last yr was the val.

We have nearly 12 kids applying to penn.... thats not including me. So around 13? I know for a fact that 7 of them are going for sure because they are all going to play sports there.

So yea..... 7/13 are in already...... lets hope we make it to 13/13 :l

i normally have nothing against athletes getting recruited. but now that I'M a senior and applying...i have a problem w/that...:/ lol sounds stupid i know

Athletes worked just as hard as you.

yea but i always feel like they get preference.........esp after what i heard from several teachers

whoa cardinal, what kinda school you go to? like andover?

lol no and thank god.......

I actually go to a very good public high school..... athletics is pretty big in my region and our tennis team, football team, and basketball team(both guys and girls) won state. So yea..... athletically, we're solid. Academically, we do really well. Its kind of given since we have to apply to get into the school even though it is a public school. But yea.... nervous!

I'm the only person from my school applying ED Penn.
I don't think anyone has gotten in in the last 5 years. Maybe even 10.

Kind of off topic, but do you guys think this is a disadvantage? :[

It shouldn't be, but it can't hurt if your regional admission officer is familiar with your school because people have applied in the past.

Cardinals, do you go to a school in PA?

OH yeah, this year there are about...6-7 people apply ED UPenn? and bunch regular. 5 got accepted last year, but that's exceptional. Our school usually sends 1.

I have nothing against athletes, I'm one myself(though not good enough to get recruited). But I think it's kind of unfair that they actually have the opportunity to get good at a sport. Same goes with like an instrumental talent. Cuz I don't get the chance to have a private music teacher or have private tennis lessons. Though I'm doing pretty well in both, (prez and concertmaster of orch and Varsity tennis), I think I could have done better with better opportunities.

Being an athlete and standing out is equivalent to being an academic standout. Not every athlete makes it to the top, just like not every student will have the chance to make it to the top.

There are a couple applicants to Penn from my school this year (probably more than any past year), but only three really stand a chance (the salutatorian, a football player, and myself). I think the last person from my school to get in was 5 years ago (M&T) and there was another person the year before getting into Wharton.

This is random BUT a facebook buddy of mine says she was accepted (according to her status msg). I thought they didn't send out the decision until 15th. How did she know in advance ?

She says she also got a full ride too...blah.

As far as I know there are 4 people applying ED including me...one (salut.) to M&T w/ Wharton, one SEAS, one CAS, and me (SEAS). I am really nervous but I've gotten past the whole end-of-the-world thing. I'll be down for a while if I don't make it, but such things pass. In the words of Coldplay, "Viva La Vida." You guys really should stop freaking out though...:)

Brando, your friend probably got accepted through Questbridge? or maybe an athlete recruit? I'm not really sure, probably QB.

Yeah, there's no end of world for me. I'll love/value my life no matter what. I LOVE Viva la vida!! It's my gov school's song and it just reminds me of so many good memories last summer.

^^^she's not an athlete. Is QuestBridge some sort of honors type program ?

Anyway, good luck to you guys. My mom's cousin went to UPenn back in the mid 1990's when I was in elementary school. He must've been pretty awsome but each year the bar keeps getting raised. Sometimes I wonder how my peers and younger friends from lower grades end up at such places....It's baffling to me!

Um, yeah, my school? Last year, 77 people applied (around 330 in senior class last year), 18 were accepted (no idea how many were early). Not sure how many actually went, but a lot...maybe around 10?
Kind of way ridiculous.
Arggh...less than two weeks, I'm going crazy.

77 applied o.O Do you live near philly?
