right but whever i do that it says i am not in the databse...

give it some time. wait until orientation I'm sure by then things will be sorted out...

do i have to take the entre math 50 series...what if i only want to take 51 and 53 or something...can i skip 52?

yes you can skip 52

yep - 51 is a requirement for a lot of things, but once you take it you can take the rest of the 50 series in any order (or not at all)

Indeed. Rumor has it (I've heard this from many people) that 52 is the worst/hardest one, so I took 51 and 53.

52 isn't hard, it's just obnoxious.

some of the language courses offered by the special language program only has pass/fail options. how would that affect your gpa? and if you're planning on going for further education how would other academic institutions look at these grades?

P/F courses are not calculated into your GPA. I know that on the medical school application, it asks if the course is P/F so they will know that you had no choice. I don't know about other programs.

Well it depends on your major really. I know because this was something I'm going through. I took Math 51 and 53 (loved 53 see the thread about favorite classes for more info) but I haven't yet taken Math 52 which apparently as a ChemE I need to. I heard its an annoying class which is why I've been putting it off (actually I'm not even going to take it this year! lol) Check the exact major requirements to find out if you need Math 52 or not.

I've been looking at a lot of classes for the fall, but I'm not sure how many I can plan on taking/which I might or might not get into.
-Chem (either 31A or 31X depending on placement, 3-4)
-Italian (5)
-Intro Linguistics (4)
-Intro Psych (5)
-IHUM
Is that doable/likely?

don't forget u might get pwr in fall quarter and u already have 20 hours already.

I've considered it, but I'm just hoping not to have it in the fall.. if I can't take the Intros when they're offered, I can't take the classes during the rest of the year that have them as prereqs. . .

I think that is way too much for the first quarter... All your advisors will tell you to take no more than 15 or 16 units the first quarter of freshman year. You have to leave some time to get adjusted to college life and make friends too!

Agreed. Even upperclassmen only take 3-4 classes a quarter (maybe plus activity or research).

I agree with Celest. Especially if you're taking Chem31X don't take that many. Which one can you push back?

Drop something. I would very strongly encourage this. Shop them if you must, but you will see come midterm time that you really don't want to do this many classes...I don't know what kind of academic background you come from, but regardless, adjusting to college and all that stuff might as well count as a 5 unit class in terms of your time.

Well, you have 22 credits there, and Stanford lets you go to a maximum of 20 anyway. So you can't do it even if you wanted to.

can you double count classes for minors... like can certain classes for a bio major be used to count towards a minor?

Only if the class is required for both. For example, both the bio major and the psych minor (this is exactly what I am) require Stats 60, so that course counts for both. However, if you take Psych 120: Cellular Neuroscience, it can count for either bio or psych, but not both.
