There is another thread for discussion, please keep this thread as concise as possible for future students.

Just for future readers’ information, we were notified on 3/14/17 that decisions would be released 3/15/17 at 8pm ET.

On 3/15/17 we were notified that NOTIFICATION RESULTS date will be moved to Friday 3/17/17.

It took me forever to find this thread, so I just thought it may be helpful to use “Case Western Reserve University” as opposed to CWRU … just a thought

Applied for Financial Aid?:
Intended Major: Computer Science

Reflection

Strengths: I don’t think I had any strengths. I guess my test scores were good but I should have retaken the ACT and SAT
Weaknesses: Horrible EC’s. I should have focused on F=MA or some olympiad, or even programming. That, and I feel that my international status (I’ve had to pay international app fee everywhere) put me in with the other international kids to compete for the limited slots due to the quotas.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Bad EC’s, not enough officer positions
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected by Georgia Tech, rejected by MIT (obv) rejected by JHU. Accepted by UF.

Waitlisted, I had an error with my midterm grades that led to them being sent today, which was probably the issue.

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):first generation

Strengths:mathematics

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: maybe quota for NJ, unsure
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
accepted Rpi, Rutgers, Njit honors, Rit.
rejected Cornell earlydecision, Northeastern
waitlisted no schools have waitlisted him yet.
waiting still for Lehigh, Rowan, ND, CMU, Stevens

Reflection
I really think our list of schools was very well balanced for a stab in the dark early decision which you only get once in a lifetime to blow $80 bucks on, well worth the try.

Basically just waiting on Lehigh and ND and their price point.
We changed our mind with CMU and Stevens.
Depending on price points NJIT beats all with 30 minute commute home and full tuition scholarship to honors college.
With that in mind, it’s ND>RPI>Case>Lehigh>Rowan>RIT>Stevens>CMU>Rutgers

Any thoughts?

Income Bracket:
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

Reflection

Strengths: Leadership, essay
Weaknesses: ACT for sure, probably GPA too
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think my theatre audition played a major role in my acceptance. The professors liked me very much and it was just a good experience overall  If you’re considering theatre, definitely try and go to Theatre Weekend (especially since my stats are below average for CWRU)! I also have a very good relationships with the teachers who wrote my recommendations, so although I waived my FERPA, I’m sure they wrote strong essays. Seriously though, and I don’t want to sound conceited, but I’m pretty sure the reason I was accepted was my audition and interview!
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: rejected Northwestern, waitlisted at Emerson (theatre and performing arts major), accepted at University of Tampa and King’s College, still waiting on Drew University, Muhlenberg College, Vassar College and Emory University

Congrats to all and good luck!

Intended Major: Bio
WI, USA
School Type: Public, “nice” part of the state
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: F
Income Bracket: Middle class
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Hispanic female in science (??)

Reflection

Strengths: I had fixed up my common app essay by Case’s deadline, so I was actually pretty proud of it. I think I also made it clear how much each of my ECs meant to me. They mentioned I should work on their school newspaper, although I don’t know how many people they said that to haha
Weaknesses: Despite how much I like my ECs lol, I know they’re pretty average. My SAT subject test scores were also kind of blah.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Northwestern, UW-Madison, Minnesota Twin Cities, & University of Missouri. No rejections/waitlists, still waiting on NYU and Ann Arbor.

REFLECTION
Strengths: I applied early, had good test scores and a good essay.

Weaknesses: I didn’t really give Case too much interest until I got the aid package.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I was a good Cleveland student and they wanted to bring in some locals who they thought could be successful in the college… but maybe it was just the YouTube, you know, “millennial appeal”.

Where else were you accepted: Tulane University, Ohio University, New College of Florida, Central State University, University of Illinois - Chicago, University of San Francisco (I applied to a lot of places so I just put the ones I was accepted too)

Hopefully I can do more research into CWRU and find it the best place for me, I’ve been teetering with whether I want to stay in the community and family I’ve built in Cleveland or move out & start over.

Strengths: Strong GPA, President of Several Clubs, Student Athlete, REALLY involved in community service.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My SAT scores did not showcase my full potential. I also believe the economic factor is a huge deal breaker.

Just find this too. Any chance for someone on wait list to get in Case Western? Thanks

@reformedman I think Lehigh is more expensive than some you’ve already rejected, but it’s a very good school.

@SpacemanEd sad to hear, still trying to figure out what to do about rpi, researching all possible avenues to try to make this work and lehigh would have been a nice alternative.
