See my post in the Georgetown forum. For super-detailed, find my post in the Yale forum dated 16 Dec :)

[] Intended Major: Political science
[] State (if domestic applicant):
[] Country (if international applicant): Vietnam
[] School Type: In Singapore - large public. Very competitive

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): 4 years high school in Singapore on full scholarship and all the life experiences i got.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I think i have a certain level of maturity that may not seem obvious from the way i look, and is definitely not something many 18 year olds have. I have a rather well-rounded profile, with major awards in both sciences and social sciences. I know what i want and i do well at it. I also have a personality. I’m quite funny in person and i know how to make conversations.
[] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: Highlight the well-roundedness. My focus now is definitely on politics/history and english.
[] Weaknesses: I’ve heard that you need intl olympiad prizes for H and i only had one writing competition to my name. I don’t think i’m anything spectacular though. Seriously.
[] Why you think you were accepted: I dont know! Its all a mystery
[li] Where else were you accepted: Harvard, Yale (EA), Princeton (likely), Columbia (likely), Georgetown SFS. Those are all that i applied for during RD round, withdrew the rest after EA decision.[/ul][/li]General Comments: I don’t know! I’m really overwhelmed. I received a likely so its a little expected but still feels really nice! Probably will have to say no to Hanover though. It’s too cold and i’ve been in the tropics all my life :P

Yaah i’m indian and I got waitlisted as well. Accepted to cornell though, so screw you big green, haha.

I am a 2-time cancer survivor whose grades first 2 years were low due to being sick and getting treatment, but turned it around junior/senior year and have nearly a 4.0 from those 2 years. I hoped that adcoms would see how far I’d come after chemo, radiation, and surgery…twice. Apparently overcoming life-threatening adversity and making a 4.0 after I got well isn’t important. I’m emotionally crushed and very bitter now, but I sincerely send congratulations to those of you lucky enough to be accepted here. As for the adcoms…well, they say what goes around comes around. May God prevent them from learning cancer’s effects firsthand so they can develop some compassion.

Rejected. eye roll.

Swissmiss, congratulations on kicking cancer in the *ss not just once but twice. My condolences on your rejection, but I’m hoping you have some other good choices. This must be hard for you.

And for in_technicolor too.

I got waitlisted. I honestly don’t understand this world. How GrayAreaGirl can submit her app TWO MONTHS after the deadline and get in, instead of being an automatic rejection, yet all of us with good credentials and the decency to respect deadlines aren’t.

I’m still waiting to hear from Wake Forest; their letter hasn’t come yet.
Lots of rejections.
In at Villanova but no fin aid.
Waitlisted at Bucknell and Washington and Lee.

My dad says I can go to the University of Arkansas. He’s serious. :(

VeryHappy, I forgot to tell you thank you. Your kind words are appreciated.

Swiss miss, your breaking my heart… I didn’t get in, but i don’t have a feel good story… Where did you get in?

Basically I got in at public schools that I haven’t visited, Villanova (with no aid), and my mom’s alma mater, Bradley. I can’t complain that I’m not accepted to other places; they’re just not places that I’ve visited or like or can afford. FAFSA said our EFC is $28K but Villanova gave me no money and it’s $51 a year. My sister who graduated from Dartmouth will be in grad school this fall, so money isn’t plentiful. My dad really likes the University of Arkansas, and thinks I should go there because it’s the cheapest college. Hey, lots of people would like to get into Arkansas, it’s just not my idea of where I’d like to study for 4 years.

Decision: Rejected

@ballparkfranks1, Dartmouth seems to not care much about deadlines. I thought I had finished my app, then realized in early february that I hadn’t sent SAT scores, and my status page said Application complete anyways, and i sent them in later. I still managed to get waitlisted after that debacle.

 • Major strength/weakness: GPA/ AP Scores fo sho are weaknesses. And to you ball guy, come on, lighten up, seriously, Dartmouth obviously looks at more than just “credentials”. I forgot I applied until they contacted me for an interview; I had put in my supplement in Decemberish but forgot to send my actual transcript/recs/school profile and stuff, so I sent all that in late February/ early March. My interview went really well and she was really impressed with me. I have no idea how I got in, but I’m pumped! Just gotta choose between Dartmouth, Tufts, and NYU, and gonna stay on the Columbia waitlist.

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted U Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Kenyon, U Mich. Waitlisted Amherst, Carleton. Rejected Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Oxford[/li][/ul]General Comments: Aiiiiiii I sent so much to follow up after being deferred. Theater supplement, writing supplement, extra letter of rec from the school director, scans of my literary magazine. Dartmouth was the school I really fell in love with. Oh well. Grandson of Alumnus wasn’t enough to get me in ED, but I was still really hoping for a RD acceptance. I think I’m actually glad I was rejected and not waitlisted…that would’ve been torture. Enjoy Hanover.

S accepted. Really was not expecting it! No hooks, just a nice person who has worked hard, and has talent and leadership. He is looking forward to visiting in April.
