[] Volunteer/Community service: mentoring Hispanic elementary school student, Spanish tutoring for high school students.
[] Summer Activities: nothing substantial, mostly just took the time to explore things that I didn’t get a chance to during the school year such as gardening, crew, and flying.
[] Essays: I didn’t really like it… but whatever, I got in!!!
[] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read, but I guess they were good (one of them was from a sophomore year teacher though).
[] Counselor Rec: Didn’t read either, but my school has 2000 students and three VERY stressed counselors (I’ve talked to her about 3 times in 4 years…), so I don’t know detailed it was. I’m assuming that she just rewrote our resumes into letter format.
[] Additional Rec: I got one (supposedly really good) from my Portuguese professor but only ended up submitting it to UChicago (I thought that it was too late for Dartmouth). I was really kicking myself afterwards for not submitting it though.
[li] Interview: Really well! By far my favorite interview. My interviewer actually didn’t show up the first time (she had the flu and completely forgot about our appointment!) but she was super nice and even offered to drive me home afterwards (I was totally reading too much into it  ).
[/li]

[] Country (if international applicant):

[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 110,000 (37K in aid… whee!!!)
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.) Nothing
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]

[] Strengths: I guess maybe my course load, SAT, and awards were a strong point, but there were so many amazing candidates that nothing really stands out.
[] Weaknesses: My GPA is horrible for a Dartmouth applicant. I received 8 Bs and 1 C (the C being in my junior year as well!) and my essay wasn’t great enough to make up for it. Also, some of you may remember my borderline hysterical post about my peer review being sent 2 months late… overall I would call myself a pretty shaky applicant.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have no clue! I’m still in shock. I guess my admissions officer was feeling generous that day.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted to UChicago, University of Virginia, American, and 2 in-state schools. Rejected at Cornell.

[/ul]General Comments:

I definitely wasn’t expecting this! My GPA was low, my essay was mediocre, and my peer rec was 2 months late (plus I’m an Asian female). For future applicants: you never know what will happen, so why not apply? You have nothing to lose–except for a hugely expensive application fee --and absolutely everything to gain. Good luck to all!

I am incredibly, incredibly lucky to be able to choose between so many amazing schools. Dartmotuh vs. UChicago vs. UVa will really tug at my heart.
