Decision: Rejected :(

Stats:[ul]
[] GPA:3.8 UW
[] Rank:n/a
[li] Else:1410 SAT (710 M, 700 V), 800 French, 760 Writing, 700 Math IC[/ul]
[/li]

Subjective: My essays were all very good, and I believe that my application portrayed me very well.

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country:California, USA
[] School Type: Public
[] Major strength/weakness: not most rigorous courseload, ECs could have been better. However, I am very strong in languages, and have an extensive history in French (my prosepctive major).
[li] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I really don't know why. I was hoping for at least the waiting list. :([/li][/ul]
**Other Factors:
* I had a glowing alumni recommendation, and all of my teacher/counselor recommendations were wonderful. I also sent in a CD of me playing the piano as well as an additional essay.

Congrats (and condolences) to everyone else! You'll all have a great time at Dartmouth or wherever you end up! :o

If anyone's wondering...
-Brown: rejected
-Penn: rejected
-Dartmouth: rejected
-Georgetown: accepted
-UCLA: rejected
-Berkeley: accepted (Spring)

Calidan,

So sorry to hear about Brown & Dartmouth. However, Georgetown is a fantastic school as you know and there are a whole lot of people who would like to be in your shoes with Georgetown.

Good luck, I'm sure I'll know how you are doing in cc.

Emily

calidan - i'm really sorry to hear you didn't make it. The college admission process is evil. I don't know if this is what you want to hear right now, but I always thought you would have made a great Dartmouth student.

sorry calidan..i was really rooting for you...dont worry you'll end up where you're supposed to be

Thanks guys. :) I may try to transfer, so I still could end up there. Who knows?

It sure has been a rough day, though. :o

SAT II 780 Wr, 750 Hist, 730 Chem
have taken the most challenging courses all 4 yrs, was in IB program up till senior yr (due to extenuating circumstances)

Subjective:

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Florida for high school, but born and raised in Michigan, lived there for 16 yrs
[] School Type: Public
[] Major strength/weakness: weakness- math scores shoddy, chem score weak (i didnt know you werent allowed to use a calculator and had practiced with a calculator then got to the test and went "oh snap", was planning on taking it again) strengths- dont know if MI counts as a midwest tip since high school was in FL, all electives were academic either IB/AP sciences or extra histories, rigor of courseload, recs were superb (esp from french teacher of 4 yrs, best friend who's an amaaazing writer, and guidance counselor who's like my best friend), a very good essay (and I'm very critical of my writing)
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted:[/ul] in addition to solid grades/scores, I guess, see Other Factors

Other Factors: first generation, a really crazy life story that'll curl your hair or uncurl it depending on the status of your hair at the commencement of the story lol, disadvantaged background/impoverished, karate (state team), state-level awards in French, did something every summer (NASA SHARP, JSA Summer School at Yale, worked full time), worked during the school year to help mom, leadership in ec's, varsity track

Other Schools:
Yale - (heart breaks, was 1st choice) ..rejected
Harvard - rejected
Princeton - pending (2nd choice; I think, i hope, I pray)
Williams - accepted, early write
Amherst - accepted
Georgetown - accepted (SFS)
Pomona - accepted
UVA - accepted
Emory - accepted
Rice - accepted
accepted into all the other schools i applied to (non ivies) that i'll spare everybody and not list

size=+2]Decision: ACCEPTED![/size]

Stats:[ul]
[] GPA: 3.97 UW, 4.67 W
[] Rank: 5/530
[li] Else: 1540 SAT I (780 V, 760 M), 790 Korean, 780 Writing, 750 Math IC, 5 APUSH, 5 AP Bio, 3 AP Calc AB[/ul]
[/li]

Subjective:AWESOME extracurriculars; supplemental essay; 40+ ec a week.

Location/Person: Southern California, First Generation Asian Female[ul]
[] State or Country: California
[] School Type: Average Public
[] Major strength/weakness: TONS of leadership, good SATs, good resume, bla bla bla.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I got a likely, and I still don't know why. I had a ridiculously bad interview; I literally came out of it cussing Dartmouth, and wishing my two rude interviewers a kick in the ass. I guess they liked me enough to accept me likely still?[/ul]

Other Factors: Prolly the first generation, good leadership, good recs, all helped?

THE DILEMMA: Duke v. Dartmouth? Why?

Waitlisted at Harvard, Yale, Penn.
Accepted Williams, Duke, Michigan, UCLA, Berkeley, Pomona, UCSD, UCI.
Waiting on Amherst, Chicago, Stanford.

IM me and convince me why I should go to Dartmouth!

I just had a question, how many of those accepted - all possible outcomes of pending admissions decisions considered - think they'll end up attending Dartmouth?

For example, I only have Princeton pending and if accepted will go there as it is my second choice, but my HYP track record isnt so hot so .. yeah. If I dont get in I'll more than likely - unless someone else gives me a fantabulous financial aid offer - end up at Dartmouth.

Rejected
ACT - 30
SATIIs - 790/630/570 (shame in voice lol)
GPA - 3.844uw, ~4.1w
Rank - 21/320uw, ~10/320w
*white girl from public school in the Northwest
*lots of involvement, etc, etc, just like everyone else lol
*biggest achievements in speech & debate
Guessing that SAT II had some role in my rejection. Also, less leadership & less significant ECs than many others, I'm guessing.

On the plus side, got into Claremont McKenna today! :)

Congratulations to all you acceptees! 'Twas not an easy feat!

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] GPA: 3.87 uw / 4.75 w
[] Rank: N/A
[li] Else: 1490 SAT (800 m, 690 v), 790/790/740 SAT II, 10 APs (all 5s and 4s), very challenging course work[/ul]
[/li]

Subjective: excellent extracurriculars, including many leadership positions (kung fu for 8 years, school gymnastics team, founder and pres of web design club, webmistress of a bunch of things); excellent teacher recommendations (i assume); good essay; very positive alumni interview

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Maryland, USA
[] School Type: Large Public School but in a Magnet Program that is very competitive
[] Major strength/weakness: strength - excellent extracurriculars and course load; weakness - sat score, i guess; maybe that a lot of people come from my school?
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I really don't know. I was really expecting to get accepted or at least waitlisted. All of my friends were amazed I wasn't accepted. I told one of my friends and he was like "but...but...it's you!" and my other friend sounded like the world had flipped upside down. :-/ I wasn't really expecting on going to Dartmouth anyway...too expensive and no merit scholarships :-P[/ul]

Other Factors: I'm asian?

If anyone's interested, decisions from my other schools:
- Vanderbilt University - Accepted w/ Full Tuition Scholarship
- Case Western Reserve University - Accepted w/ $19 K scholarship
- University of Maryland - Accepted w/ Scholarship
- University of Wisconsin - Accepted
- College of William and Mary - Accepted w/ Scholars
- Grove City College - Accepted
- University of Virginia - Waiting to hear from
- Rice University - Waiting to hear from

eh, I was rejected too.... looks like I'll be heading towards duke

*Decision: Accepted *

Stats:

SAT I: 1590 (790 V, 800 M)
SAT II: World History, Math IIC, Writing-800, Chemistry (9th grade)-780
National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, Candidate for Presidential Scholars, etc.....
Took most rigorous curriculum high school offered, should be able to graduate in 3 years from Dartmouth and other places with the credit I've racked up.

Subjective:

[ul]
[] State or Country: Northeast
[] School Type: Public
[] Major strength/weakness: My solid, well rounded academic profile, standardized test scores, etc, that I am a passionate, curious person and engage in the things that I love. Background may also be a plus. Weakness-Eh, I've focused on music throughout my youth, spending countless hours at my instrument, perfecting my craft, getting state and regional recognition, etc. Looking at how things went for me now, I'm thinking that maybe I would have been better off with another EC, college admissions wise-some politically correct bs that college admissions officers seem to love. However, I wouldn't trade my instrument for the world :).
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I believe I was accepted to Dartmouth because of my stats, as they seem to be the most stats based of all the Ivies, and because they don't seem to practice any strategic admissions. If you want a great inside look at Dartmouth admissions, read Michelle Hernandez's tome, A is For Admission. Its assesment of the process at the school seems to be in line with reality.

[/ul]
Other Factors:

I was born abroad, a persecuted religious and ethnic minority in my homeland. My parents and I fled from our native country, and arrived in the US when I was but a lad. Since then, I've maintained fluency in two languages, as well as the cultural ties of my past. If that doensn't enhance diversity, I don't know what does.

So here is how admissions has shaped up for me so far:
Accepted-Dartmouth (with a likely), Wash U., Brandeis (Full Tuition merit)
Waitlisted-Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Swarthmore
Rejected-Yale, MIT

I am very happy with the options in front of me, and look forward to attending Dartmouth College next fall, now a very likely possibility. However, I was a bit surprised by the way the process worked out for me. While I considered Harvard and Yale to be serious reaches, I thought I might have better luck at Columbia, Brown, and Swarthmore-especially in light of my Dartmouth likely. I don't understand what happened. Perhaps strategic admissions played a part, as they could have thought I'd get accepted at an HYP and go there, like that happened, heh.

Decision: Accepted!

[] Teacher Recs: Not sure, waived my right to see it
[] Counselor Rec: Ditto
[] Interview: Went very well. We talked for two hours about the school and about other random things, and I think my interviewer was impressed in my enthusiasm and knowledge.
[] Hook (if any): If I had a hook, it'd be research - I was a semifinalist in Siemens Westinghouse and Intel STS, amongst other things. Also, I'm a president of 3 different clubs in my school, including National Honor Society.

* Congratulations, Gabe on your acceptances*

Looks as you have some wonderful choices to chose from. I hope you choose the school that will be the best school for you not the school you think has the best bumper sticker value.

All the best

* Congratulations, Kiwi_Strawbree
*

I hope you have a great time in Hanover. At least you already know the weather won't be a factor :)

Cardinal,

I am sorry to hear about the waitlist from Dartmouth. But because we still got love for ya :

* Congratulations, Cardinal on your Stanford admission*

You know that at Dartmouth you can do a leave term at Stanford, it probably works the other way also especially since they are both on the quater system. So you can still hang in Hanover if you want to. You know the friends will take you in.

All the best

* Congratulations, GhaleonQ

Welcome to the class of 09. I hope you have an amazing time in Hanover.
