Official Dartmouth RDers 2014 thread!

Woo! Officially on break! Anyone else?

And, mfederman, I don’t know if this is anything new but I found an article for what it’s worth: [Dartmouth News - Dartmouth admits 461 students through early decision - 12/09/09](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~news/releases/2009/12/09.html)

Ok, so here’s the dealio: If I forgot to mention two major things on my common app (!!!):

Member and Treasurer of Drama Club (11th, 12th)
Volunteer trip to a village in India with a well known organization (10th, I lived in India)

What is the best way to inform colleges about this if I’ve already submitted my common app and a lot of the supplements (Including Dartmouth)?
Should I email them? call them?

I know this is very careless of me and I regret it everyday :</p>

I’m sadly not on break =[ My school is such a pressure cooker. Our first day of break is Christmas Eve. On the other hand, that big snowstorm? Yeah… two feet will be on my head by Sunday morning, and we’re in that part of the country that freaks out about 6 inches. Last time this happened, we missed 5 consecutive days of school. I live in hope?

Rumjhum: I feel your pain =[ I’m not sure if it’s the right thing to contact them now, while they are still receiving a ton of apps. It might be a better idea to wait until the new year, when they are actually going through the process, so the information you give them doesn’t get lost in the interim. I’m not really sure, though!

Rumjhum: do not fret. It happens to everyone. If I were you, I would call the office of undergraduate admissions at the colleges you’ve already submitted the common app to and see what their procedure is for updating application materials, as I feel like each college likely has its own process. Don’t take my word for this though, because I might be mistaken. If you have not submitted your common application to your new colleges and feel that this information is vitally important, you can make a new version of the common app in order to correct this mistake. Personally, while I think Greyoranges is right in that you do not want to overwhelm them during the busiest period of application submissions, I would not hesitate in getting this straightened out.

I’m sorry to hear that, Greyoranges! I would freak out if I were in your shoes… I don’t think I could’ve waited a day longer. We get tons of snow here too, but unfortunately, our district implemented a new policy which says we only get three “disaster days” - snow days, power outages, or any other misc. misfortune which might befall our school - before we have to start making up days in the summer. With any luck though, you will get your snow days and be free a couple days early! :)

Ahh, so much snow! It’s APPLICATION TIME!

Totally! First quasi-heavy snow here, too. Only about two inches, not much, but still rough driving. Submitted Michigan today and hope to get in two others in the next couple days! Where are you working on?

Haha yay! I think we’re up about 20" at the moment. If this melts…and then freezes overnight… no, I mustn’t have such high expectations!

I’m currently working on my lovely Cornell supplements. Wa-hoo.

When you said heavy snow fall, you meant it. o_O That’s insane! If you don’t get a snow day… I wouldn’t even know what to say. Good luck!

Cornell is pretty awesome. My sister went there and for years I really loved it whenever we went to visit her. I’m planning on majoring in the same thing as she did though, so in the past couple years I’ve shied away from it to avoid “following in her footsteps.” I still applied there, though, 'cause it really also is an amazing place to be (and the food is incredible.) I think I’d be much more into it if I wouldn’t be doing essentially -exactly- what she did.

Must. submit. Princeton. today.

Haha, I did like Cornell a lot.

I considered Princeton, and then I looked at the boards on here, and I sort of died inside.
I still might apply for kicks, because I really like their essays. On the same note, did anyone do UChicago or Tufts? They had some really fun essays.

Best of luck, Weezer, although we all know this is where you really belong =P

Hmmm… maybe I should take a look at this board before I apply. Hahaha.
Penn also had a really good essay. I’ve yet to write it but it looks like a very fun, interesting topic. Not one of the conventional sort by any means. UChicago and Tufts are pretty famous for their off beat essays.

Awww, thanks, you too! I’m applying to a lot of really nice schools so that in case Dartmouth doesn’t work out, I won’t be super disappointed, but obviously Dartmouth is my top consideration. Although obviously, it would be a strange occurrence if I got into Princeton and not into Dartmouth. Not that it couldn’t happen, though.

How’s the snow coming?

Ah, yes. The Ivies are pretty famous for surprising their applicants. I know a girl who applied to Cornell and Yale (for kicks and giggles). Rejected from Cornell, accepted at Yale. Someone had a lil’ too much to drink before making those decisions…

Snow’s blowing around a lot. I had to shovel for 3 hours over the weekend, so our driveway’s almost clear. A lot of our neighboring counties are already off for tomorrow, so I think it’s likely we’ll follow their lead sooner or later. If that’s the case, I’ll probably be on here rambling all day instead of studying!

Enjoy writing!

Also, if you guys want to talk more, feel free to send me a message of something. I check my facebook a lot more frequently than I do CC, so that might be a more efficient means of communication!

Regular Decision-er from New York =]

And another tennis player, varsity wooh! I might do the Club Team for Tennis at Dartmouth. Dartmouth is probably one of my top choices, definitely in the top two. I didn’t apply ED or EA anywhere, so no acceptances yet. AHH.

Definitely… they make some really odd decisions. Yale and not Cornell is more than a bit absurd, but I have heard of so-called “Tufts” syndrome, where some colleges reject “over-qualified” applicants who they think are only applying because they want a safety school. I’ve never seen it happen in practice, though, and I’d hardly call any ivy a safety school.

Snooooow day! I’ll be here too! We can have a super-cool-snowday-chat-party (SCSCP for short?) Haha.

Welcome, teamfrangela! Join the ever growing number of RD Dartmouthers who like/play tennis :)

Haha tennis rules, that’s why everyone loves it.

And you have a snowday tomorrow? Ergh. I only have a delay =/. Damn school. And near me, we got like 2 feet of snow.

Tennis does rule! If I didn’t like running so much, I would definitely play tennis in the spring. I get to play a lot in the summer though, so that’s okay. :)

Haha, not me - I’m on break - but with any luck greyoranges will. That’s really strange though… two feet of snow and still school? Ouch! I’m sorry, that sucks. Our school used to be like that, but I don’t think we’ve ever had two feet of snow and not canceled. Maybe things will change for you in the morning though.

Oh yeah I do tennis in the spring. I hate running long distances! I was a hurdler in middle school track haha =]. And oh lucky, my break doesn’t start till Christmas Eve! And yeah my school is really weird. And fingers crossed =] lol. Where are you from?

Haha. I’m the opposite. I’m a distance runner who can’t sprint at all. Hurdlers are pretty awesome… I haven’t nearly the coordination to do anything like that.

Wow, a lot of schools apparently don’t go on break until Christmas. It seems I’m the odd one out here, but in this case, I don’t mind at all, haha. Good luck, though! I do hope you also get a day off… not only are snow days awesome, but two feet just sounds downright unsafe. o_o

I am from Ohio! Home of… well, not much. But we have lots of snow! And… cornfields and stuff. Yeah! No, I kid, I kid, there are a lot of neat things about Ohio. It isn’t the most exciting place in the world, though. =P

Oh well distance runners are really cool. Since I can’t run like a mile. And yeah I would like a day off, but ehhh whatever happens happens. And oh Ohio, I have cousins who lived there. They moved to New York haha. Guess NY is so popular then =p

Whoa, strange! My cousin and grandparents all live in New York. Funny how that works sometimes. New York -is- very popular, and not undeservedly - but all the same, most people think of New York as New York city only. I’m not a very urban guy, though, so I prefer the more rural side of New York where said grandparents live. It’s very peaceful up there. I guess that’s why I like Dartmouth so much… it’s very cozy and pretty isolated/rural too.
