[] Essays: My common app was risky, and I put a lot of effort into the Davidson one. I think they were both really good.

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Unfortunately, none
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection

Strengths: GPA and ACT, leadership

Weaknesses: potentially risky essays, but I guess they liked them

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I showed a lot of interest, which is really important to Davidson. I visited campus twice, sat in on a class, had a non-evaluative interview, contacted my admissions rep, and applied for the Belk. I think that probably helped.

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was also accepted to Northeastern University (full tuition scholarship), UNC Chapel Hill, American University (20k merit) and University of Florida

General Comments: If I could afford Davidson, it would be my first choice. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there is a scholarship in the financial aid letter. But either way I feel very honored to be accepted! :)

[] Strengths: Test scores, grades
[] Weaknesses: Community service? Essays? Teacher recs?
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don’t know, I was pretty surprised, I don’t think anyone from my area has gone to Davidson recently, so that might be a plus.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: So far: accepted at Middlebury, William & Mary, Richmond, and Villanova.

[/ul]General Comments: Hopefully I’ll go down to visit again, but it might be hard to fly down for just a few days!

Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): Writing: 700 Math: 620 Verbal: 730
[] ACT: 30
[] SAT II: Literature: 750, Math I: 610, US History: 700

[] Job/Work Experience: n/a
[] Volunteer/Community service: Tutoring for school writing center and tutoring after school at neighboring high schools and middle schools. (avg. about 10 hours a week)
[] Essays: The honor code essay was kind of thrown together, but my common app essay was very good.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I got the impression that they were very good. I have good relationships with both teachers.
[] Counselor Rec: I have a close relationship with my counselor, and I think she wrote a very good recommendation
[li] Additional Rec:
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): TX
[] School Type: small private
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: >$90,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I don’t think I really have any.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, grades and recommendations.
[] Weaknesses: Math scores, senior course load.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think those extra fine-arts electives instead of more academic electives or AP’s may have hurt me in my senior course load, but no regrets. Also, I don’t know if they were looking for someone with more academic extracurriculars, but I put a lot of hardwork in the theatre department, so I definitely wasn’t being lazy. But those math scores… I know those definitely hurt me rather than helped me.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: American University, Furman University, University of Texas (Plan II Honors Liberal Arts College and McCombs Business School), and Baylor University (Honors College). Waitlisted: Washington University in St. Louis. Waiting on: College of William and Mary, Emory University, and Amherst College.

[/ul]General Comments: I am disappointed, but looking back, I don’t think this would have been the right school for me. While I value a rigorous education, I don’t want to spend my entire college career stuck in my room studying, which, from what I’ve heard from friends who go there, is exactly what happens. Also I want a school with a good theatre department, which Davidson doesn’t really have. Congrats to those who were accepted and good luck to those who were waitlisted!

Rejected.

I was kind of shocked I was rejected. At a glance: ACT 31, UW GPA 3.75, rank top 10.2% (my HS is well-known, above average, 2400 students- 750 in my class),

I’m from MN, URM(asian).

TONS of volunteer work. Mission trips to MX (w/leadership), Raised $18K from speaking at Rotary clubs to go to Africa and build a school, frequent help with food shelves/drives

Pretty decent ECs. top band out of 4 and president of it. “Varsity” Mathlete, Tennis, theatre, Church Camp counselor, NHS, SADD (All these were done all 4 years of HS)

Great Recs.

My {very tough] english teacher loved my common app essay, i thought it was pretty good, too. Short answer was okay.

Senior year AP spanish AP stats, AP lit, psych, band, econ (i know not too strong, but my HS is difficult!)

Not many great awards. Athletic letters, Academic letters, multiple music awards.

what else…

my fam does have mid-low income… maybe that hurt me?

I’m not too hurt, just kind of surprised!

Waitlisted-very disappointed.
