Davidson College Admission - Your Decision

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! WHOO!!! I'm so freaking excited!

Err, stats, let's see...
Well I had a 32 ACT, I'm homeschooled so GPA is a bit vague but I had about a 3.85 and had a really rigorous course load. Err, let's see, what else. Well I'm the son of alum, and I don't know what else to say, but I'm soooooooo happy!!!!!

ACCEPTED!!!
with less than Davidson stats..28 ACT, NO SAT II's and 14/335

Raceme: are you a URM or legacy?

No I'm not, I'm a white middle-class male from North Carolina.

I am proud to have been rejected from Davidson. I had negative interactions with the admissions department from the beginning (for various reasons related to a "nontraditional" education). Nevertheless, my quote of the day from the rejection letter goes as follows: "If tradition repeats itself, some of our students will not live up to our expectations and some not admitted will be extraordinarily successful elsewhere." - Dean of Admissions/Financial Aid @ Davidson

I have absolutely no qualms with the decision, as I have been accepted to Carleton, University of Southern California, Smith, and Macalester...guess it did not help to have come from the South. Who wants to go somewhere where your clothes are washed for you - isn't college about growing up? What a tremendously bizarre school!

Aaron, ED plays a HUUUUGGGGEEE role! It's like saying "Hey, Davidson! I may have lower stats, but I'm legally bound to attend if you let me in, and I can basically pay full tuition!"

lolz

P.S. I love the laundry service! haha I'm dedicated when it comes to schoolwork, but not so dedicated with respect to housework ;)

Also, everyone who was rejected or waitlisted, keep in mind that Davidson is not only a liberal arts school (weird in the first place), but also requires very specific essays for them to figure out if they think you "fit" or not. It's totally subjective, so don't feel bad. Some adcom could've been having a cranky day and didn't particularly enjoy your Honor Code essay, and put you in an unfortunate pile. :/

Hahah, with all due respect, probably not the place to bash Davidson....

Although sorry to hear you were not accepted, anyway. Those are some incredible schools! Especially Smith! Dang, girl!

Don't knock the laundry service. It be awesome!

Rejected, congrats to those of you who got in though

^Yeah, I think the ED acceptances at my school gave me a false impression of my chances of admission. Although I am still surprised, I visited more than once, had SAT scores that were overall at the 75th percentile, and really felt like I showed I loved Davidson in my essays.

It is truly dissapointing and frustrating, as I will always wonder why they didn't feel I was a good fit for them while I felt it was my dream school.

However, the quality of some of the other waitlisted candidates who posted are even more surprising. Someone with a 1540 (I think) getting waitlisted? Sometimes admissions really is a crapshoot, no matter how much some people deny it.

i did early decision. do you really think it's unlikely ed'ers get any scholarships? amplifiar do you know anyone who applied e.d. and got a scholarship?

i am so excited about the laundry! :)

I'M SO PUMPED!!

[] Strengths: Expressed a lot of interest, great relationship with adcom
[] Weaknesses: SAT II scores
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: LOTS of interest, GPA? [/ul]

I'm so ecstatic that I got in...however, I feel somewhat inferior now looking at those stats of some who were waitlisted or didn't get in. =(

I'm bottom 2% in my Davidson class, gpa-wise.

It's just what Aaron said: it's a total crap shoot.

Waitlisted. When do we find out our final decisions?

If you're wait-listed and still want to come, accept your spot on the wait-list, send in your enrollment deposit to your second choice school, and wait for mid-May. Sometime in mid-May, when they see how many spots they have left, they'll notify a few on the wait-list and see who wants to come. If you are accepted, you then cancel your enrollment at the other school (you probably don't get your $300 back, sorry), and send your second enrollment deposit to Davidson.

raceme... i told you it'd be worth it haha congrats man
and congrats to everyone else who likes davidson as much as i do and got it!
to everyone that didn't, keep showing interest if you got waitlisted and still want to come (you still have a chance!) and if you didn't - know that i haven't known anyone who worked hard and ended up at a school they didn't end up loving

About the waitlist...

It's common knowledge by now that two crazy things are happening in admissions this year: the economy is screwing up people's college plans, and tons of kids are applying to TONS of schools. I applied to 9, and my friends thought I was being too conservative haha. Anyway, these two factors combined will make the yield at a lot of schools drop pretty dramatically. Several Deans (including Harvard's) have openly stated that they plan on using the waitlist heavily this year.

Now, obviously, for Davidson, the freshman class is like 500 kids, so even in a good year, not that many waitlistees will get offers, but I guarantee that a few will.
I, for one, will almost certainly not be attending Davidson if I get into HYPS, because I'll get better Financial Aid, and I'm a prestige-whore :D
I know there are many more like me, so I'm sure quite a few spots will be opening up!
