Official Dec 2012 MATH thread

Thought it was a bit harder than last time but still manageable

Interesting, I thought parts were more challenging.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC

Yeah there were 2-3 questions between 40-50 that were difficult and then 3 that bothered me from 50-60…not counting stupid errors. Oh well

The only one I felt unsure about was the one with the circle with the 90 deg segment cut out and we were asked to find the sum of the two angles

I originally chose 90 deg but then switched to 45 deg at the last minute

the sum is 45 becuase 360 -270 -45=45

I love you tim.

The question near the end with the triangles dots increasing geometrically. What did you put for your answer. I think my was 2040 but that was a total guess.

What was the answer to the question where it was like, 2^(x^2+1)=1 or something like that

You had to set the exponent equal to 0 since anything to the 0 power is one.

2^(x^2+1)=2^0 -> x^2+1=0

dot one was 2080

Compared to the five pre-tests in the red book, I found math to be a bit more challenging. Not necessarily difficult, just more creative.

I got 2080 for dots too, but I had to do it manually and it took a long time. What is the equation for it?

You know someone had to ask. How many C’s for 55-60 lol

because it was consecutive numbers so u take (64+1)/2 and u get the mean to be 32.5 so u multiple that by # of terms: 64 and get 2080

Yeah the one with 2^(x^2+1) was two imaginary numbers.

I had 6 problems when he called five minutes left and guessed on all of them except for 59. I got that one right. I specifically remember putting 45 for the circle one so I’m so happy about that. It’s never taken me so long to do math though…i have a sinus infection and a fever so that might have something to do with it.

Maybe 5 wrong total? What’s that like a 31? I think i got 36s on English and Reading and science is a complete wild card, i mean i couldve gotten a 36 or a 20 i have no idea. so hopefully i got like a 32 or 33.

For #59 on the math, was the answer -18? I had like a minute left so i just quickly did it in my head.

YES it was -18 haha i did the same thing.

i got -18 as well
x^2+(-18x)+17=0

(X-1)(X-17)=0
so solutions are +1 and +17
