Official Dec 2012 MATH thread

I don’t remember the question but i do recall putting “irrational” as the answer…please don’t let me be wrong again lol

no im sure because i remember i did the exact same thing (i thought they were asking for the expression, not x) but i read it again and saw i was wrong.

I chose x is rational, not sure though

Was there an answer (1,029 + x + y)/11?

Answer was X is rational.

Dammit…guys I probably got -20 and I don’t even realize it

none of you read it. if x was rational, plug it into the equation. plug 5 in. no matter what you get an irrational answer and the question asked for what x value would you get a rational number. just do it haha.

if x=2/3, then 4(2/3) = (8/3). (2/3)^2 = 4/9. 6(4/9) = 24/9. (8/3)/(24/9)=1 which is a rational number. BOOM

Was there an answer (1,029 + x + y)/11?
Yes that was right.

I put x is rational although I was running out of time and wasn’t sure at all.

@efeens
dude you better be right. I’m banking on this crap

SAT, the question was this: consider the expression 4x/6x^2. For what value of x will the expression result in a rational number? or something like that.

haha…I think that is the case with all of us…we are all wondering what we got wrong. To actually know what you got wrong, just add another 5-6 in addition to the ones you know you got wrong. SAT…I think you are set though…a 34…comeon…you need no worry.

“none of you read it. if x was rational, plug it into the equation. plug 5 in. no matter what you get an irrational answer and the question asked for what x value would you get a rational number. just do it haha.”

Rational number is ANY NUMBER THAT CAN BE WRITTEN AS A FRACTION. It said you can plug ANY REAL NUMBER. IRRATIONAL NUMBERS ARE NUMBERS LIKE e or pi. Therefore, you’re completely wrong. If you plug in rational numbers, you always get a rational solution.

I know i’m hoping i am too but im like 99.99999999999% sure on that one seeing as i did it wrong, noticed my mistake, and then corrected it.

EDIT: *** 10 char

i just used every curse word known to man…

howmanyofme, you’re completely right. i forgot rational numbers encompass repeating decimals. i wanna kick myself. add another one to the missed column for math.

damn it all

subtract one for me lol

What was the answer about the sum of the two angles inside the circle with a 90 deg angle?

efeens do you remember any problems from 40-50?
I remember
400 pi
162
2080
45 degrees
and nothing else…

You’re useless efeens! useless

And yeah RR2022 I am pretty much set but I had figured that a 35 could only help. Oh well I suspect I got something like (R:36, E:35, S:36, M:12)

What was the one with 400 pi?
