Official Dec Test (CR-Shakespeare, Autobiography-brother Dennis)

<p>What were the other choices to the qualified readership?</p>

<p>also got that answer. i think we are right. that was probably the hardest shakespeare question though.</p>

<p>Yeah, the passage 1 talked about all those ethereal qualities, not about mundane things like producing dramas in a play. I also put that choice.</p>

<p>^especially the last 4. i had like 3 mins and guessed..</p>

<p>the first couple were RIGHT out of the passage. i think the only two possible choices were military and drama.</p>

<p>im sorry Angel, think i bombed Shakespeare too</p>

<p>someone say what the last 4 shakespeare questions were</p>

<p>Dont Cancel!</p>

<p>there was some question about the guys neighbor going to prison for a few shillings. it was something like “what did that sentence represent”</p>

<p>i think i picked something about how an authors personal morals are reflected through his writing for one of the shakespeare questions.</p>

<p>anyone know how many questions are in Shakespeare?</p>

<p>Although i’m not good in verbal, but the shakespear passage i have done about 5 times already, everytime different person. But it’s aobut the same thing. So i’m pretty sure about my answers.</p>

<p>“that was probably the hardest shakespeare question” what! i thought not the one with fantastic=absurd is the ONLY easy question n the rest to me i randomly guessed…genius! plz some1 tell me what the answers were..hopefully i guessed half rite</p>

<p>how many wrongs would i need to get a 700 on CR. I had 2 ommitted and i think, at worst, i got 10 wrong. what would that be</p>

<p>8 in shakespeare n i only knew 1 answer</p>

<p>SeaHwang, in june i missed 10 for a 680. in oct i missed 7 for a 720.</p>

<p>in one of the CR sections, i made up an acronym for my SC answers. it was ITIMES…i think i had meticulous and innocuous and timidity. but i cant remember the IES. anyone know?</p>

<p>wait sry not 8 like 16 ****t i only knew 1</p>

<p>Critical Reading

  1. Mini-Pair on the Internet Bubble (internet and internet + british railroad)
. Compared to Passage 2, Passage 1’s tone is glib. (I know for a fact that this is wrong because it asked us to compare to Passage 2 so it was scholarly, I discussed it with my friend)
. Both authors agree that internet companies lost investments
    . The “entrepreneurs” = “would-be millionaires” of second passage</p>

<ol>
<li><p>Dennis
. Paragraph with just Dennis’s name = (evocation)-
. Dennis’s large, oblong shadow = awe. Keeping war from family = not involve family in social activism
. Mommy’s repetition of Dennis’s name = exaggerated regard
. Rooster running around + Mom yelling = riotous moment
. Zoo/circus house = show the excitement within it</p></li>
<li><p>Governess
. Point of final paragraph is to show immediate effects of her new magic tricks
. Point of kid running out of room screaming = show extent of how children want to fool the adults
. Suitcase symbolizes her unsettled life
. Edward’s initial reaction = typical of most young guys to her
. Coyness = pretend to entertain Edward’s request to get what she wants
. Hard (the new life) = onerous
. Description of her lack of mastery of sums etc. = she didn’t apply herself at school
. Grating hinge = she was trying to sneak out
. Life as governess = result of her need to support herself financially
. Irony = Governess is supposed to teach, not learn from students can you explain your argument triviadude, I dont know why this is would be wrong
. “Freedom from bondage, wealth, power, fame” = overstatement</p></li>
<li><p>Shakespeare Two Passages
. “Indeed” = concede a point of an argument that Passage 2’s author disagrees with
. Author 1’s “conception” of the tests are misguided? or idealistic.( I think it is idealistic because the passage says that the article believed that De Verve “perfectly fit”
fantastic = absurd- easy, (i thought this was imaginary)</p></li>
<li><p>Puerto Rican writers paragraph
. Author = reject the widespread practice as inappropriate (the practice of separating into English and Spanish journals, eclipsing their unity) The other feasible choice was the coinciding two conflicting views, but I thought it was clear that bringing them together > separation in the author’s view, especially with his word choice of “eclipse” in the final sentence.</p></li>
<li><p>Astrophotography paragraph
. Photography = act of self-expression
. Putting a person in the picture also = suggest an approach</p></li>
<li><p>Scientific Theories
. Author is “something receptive” of theories?
. “Easy” theories = easily tested and observed
. Author in last paragraph = resignation over inability to predict which theories will be right
. Theories cannot be tested in physical world</p></li>
</ol>

<p>she learns magic tricks</p>

<p>andrea, did you “miss” it, as in you got it wrong or did you omit them?</p>

<p>“6. Astrophotography paragraph
. Photography = act of self-expression”</p>

<p>Why would it be an act of self-expression. I thought it would rather be to remember memories, since it’s to document one’s identity, not to convey information to others.</p>

<p>Point of kid running out of room screaming = show extent of how children want to fool the adults (governess)</p>

<p>Ok, think of it like this.
The choice I think is correct is “the performance didn’t turn out as expected”
The governess, remember earlier in the passage, was described with an exaggerated tone [these new magic tricks would really get her out of all the deep **** she was in, it would help so much, etc]. But the result was that everyone really knew the magic was of poor quality and people were being polite in general…except that one boy."</p>

<p>Points of concern:

  1. Does the boy want to fool the adults? No! The boy is being facetious and rude, NOT trying to trick the governess.
  2. Were the children trying to fool the adults in that they were trying to fool the adults into thinking that they were interested? No! It was already agreed upon that the children would be attentive and polite even though the performance might be poor.
  3. The kid running out of the room screaming was making a scene, not trying to fool the adults.</p>
