The decisions website (http://decisions.mit.edu), just got updated with this information:
[QUOTE]
Hi, and welcome to the MIT Online Decisions web site. Admissions decisions will be released on Thursday, December 16th at 9:00PM EST (Eastern Standard Time). We know you're excited, and that waiting is tough – hang in there! It won't be much longer.

OH MY GOSH!! This is freaking ridiculous!
I don’t know whether to be excited or horrified. Waiting is going to be hell now that I know when it’s coming out.

Interesting. A post declaring the date and time by a poster that has only posted once? Also, confirm your MIT Username and Password? I’d hold off for verification from Chris or Mollie before putting in your personal information on that one…

It doesn’t look like he played any shenanigans with the URL, so it’s the real MIT website. Besides that, it rejects invalid username/password combinations, so it’s almost definitely legitimate.

Thanks for the verification. It’s just odd there are no links back to MIT’s website. Also, I don’t see a link to it or any mention of it on the undergraduate admissions link. What a prank that would be though, eh?..

I got to the very same page by going to the MIT undergraduate admissions page, selecting tab 6, then the Selection Process. On the left side of the page is a link to the decisions page. And it does indeed say that next Thursday is the day.

At the bottom of the page, it even mentions question 11a from the application: What do you do just for fun? You all should do that for the next week!

I am really stupid or really trusting. I went to the link on post #1 and filled out my son’s information. I hope this is for real and I didn’t fall for a dumb prank or worse yet a prank that would harm my son’s chances by typing in his password which would allow someone to manipulate his application.

^I agree with you … that was probably too trusting.

But, I will confirm that you can get to a page exactly like that via the MIT website. My son did it when he got home – via the website directly. You enter the exact same information and get a confirmation that you’ll be able to view your admissions decision on December 16.

I think the above link is likely legit – posted in an attempt to be helpful. But, after a handful of bad experiences, I’m pretty careful about trusting others!
