Official December World History Thread

ah! I should have known that. Now I'm missed 7. Err..I'm doomed. :(

Chill Out.

Seven that you know of ;).

That should still be an 800 though.

Yeah, but I'm bound to miss a lot more.

I know SHintoism was the answer to one of the questions, but was Zen Buddhism an answer as well?

It was the answer for what did Japan not import (Shinto developed indigenously).

That preface to the samurai novel showed the influence of Zen Buddhism, I believe, because of the abstract themes, flowery writing, and use of metaphor.

Incidentally, Charlemagne promoted a revival in Latin scholarship and education, in case you weren't sure of that one (which I got wrong).

Yeah, that's what I put for all three. Also I remember there was a question about Mali, and I remember putting that it had a lot of gold deposits. Is that right?

the great library of antiquity = Alexandria (not Timbuktu)

I checked that on Wikipedia

yup I got that too.

What was the one on Allies and Axis in World War II?

more industrial productivity?

Mali = strong control and dominance over trade

The axis one was that they lost the Battle of Stalingrad.

but i don't think that was an answer choice

I thought the Mali one was specifically about gold. Mali controlled about half the world's gold at that time, I believe. For the other one, I put industrial productivity as well, but I'm not so sure.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/wwtwo/how_the_allies_won_01.shtml

This article mentions air power in addition to the US's and the Soviet Union's industrial productivity. Was that an answer?

Yeah I put gold too, but on Encarta it says they controlled trade.

the REAL SAT II says the minimum scaled score to get an 800 is 80.

so you can miss up to 12 and still get 800?

Do any of you know the answer to the question about Muslim Spain. Did it help to spread knowledge or something?

Mali's power specifically came from it's large deposits of gold (that's definitely what they were looking for).

The best answer for why the Allies won was due to their superior industrial production.

The Muslims preserved and spread scientific knowledge (actually they preserved a lot more of historic Western culture / ideas but in this case science was the specific answer).

"so you can miss up to 12 and still get 800?"

I'm going to find out the latest and most accurate curve in a few days, and I'll post it on this thread when I do.

I still think the choice on trade control was correct
