[/ul]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Well I got an early write acceptance about 3 weeks ago and was absolutely floored when I got it. Congrats to all the students who got in. To all those who didn’t, I know that you are going to do excellent no matter where you go. Just the fact that you’re on CC to try to learn what you can do to improve is a testament to your perseverance and commitment to academics which will serve you well in the future. To future applicants looking at this thread for a reference, don’t be intimidated by any of these stats for anyone who posted. Colleges look beyond the stats to find out who you are. Good Luck!!

one of the cons of living in fl ~ i have yet to receive any letters from the NE LACs
although i was accepted to midd yesterday
i was really surprised, though, because i was WL at wes
admissions are so unpredictable this year
here’s to keeping my fingers crossed

congrats to everyone!

theGame: Those numbers that I gave to you are correct, though, it didn’t mention that they accepted 1200 students. But, yes, 7600+ applicants applied.

ahh i am so nervous. i haven’t received the letter yet, but tomorrow will prabably be the day. i’ve gotten into some schools (Northwestern UofC and some other LACs) and rejected by others (Yale and MIT) so i don’t know where i stand at all. i didnt think i would be this nervous, but knowing it is in the post office just a few blocks away is making me crazed. i am bracing myself for the worst and hoping for the best…

^I think that’s a pretty good way of looking at it, Hlover! I know it’s hard, but try to relax. You’ve already gotten into some really great schools as it is! Congrats! I wish you all the best :)

aw thanks. i’ll let yuou guys know the news tomorrow.
and btw, congrats to Ambitious and everyone accepted!!

[li] Why you think you were waitlisted: Who knows. Cause they like purple.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I don’t really care, have gotten into Duke and Georgetown, waiting on Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, and Penn. Will probably take my name off the list anyway - never really wanted to go to Amherst.

I applied to Amherst regular decision and live in Illinois. I have received nothing in the mail yet and am wondering when to expect something. Should I be worried? Has anyone else from Illinois gotten anything yet?

rejected…

sat: cr 800 m670 w 730
sat II us history 780 eng lit 740 latin 610
act:35
class rank 3/35
gpa u3.9 w4.1

ec… tons: a sport every season (varsity xc and track captain), Key Club, musicals, piano. tons of service including a counselor at an MDA camp and 2 mission trips to Belize.

essay… i thought both my common and amherst were awesome (didn’t spend too much time on them… probably a problem)
recs. this is where i was screwed. my counselor does not like me at all.
state: OH
school : very small Catholic

pshan730, a neighbor’s daughter never heard anything form Amherst and she had to call. It turned out she never got her acceptance letter.

I have a question. Is there any student here who got accepted to Diversity Weekend and did NOT get accepted? My child went to Diversity Weekend, I thought the material said 90% if the people invited get accepted, my child submitted additional grades that were the best they ever got, and were denied admissions.

Is there any parent who can comment?

This is particularly sad since my child found out via email all the people they met that weekend got admitted.

Thanks

dirtyjeans,

Wow, that’s pretty brutal. I was under the impression, just from reading the forum here, that if you were invited to Diversity Week you already were in. I know this must be a tough time for your kid, but I’m sure everything will work out for the best in the end.

dirtyjeans, are you referring those who attended DIVOH in September and October? For last years admission cycle, D knew of students she attended with that were not admitted.

rejected :frowning:
but i’m happy with my other acceptences.
again, congrats to those accepted!!!

lol turns out my dad got the package today and hid it because he wanted to surprise me

Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2280
[] SAT IIs: Math 800, Bio 780, USH 720
[] ACT: 36
[] GPA: 4.5ish W, 3.9ish UW
[] Rank: Top 3%
[] Other stats: Brown Book Award Nominee, NMS Finalist, several in-school awards and Scholastic Bowl awards, NCTE writing competition nominee, AP Scholar with Distinction, etc.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I loved my common app essay and I thought the quote response went very well too! Writing is a strength so I’m sure they were well-received.
[] Teacher Recs: Both were pretty good, I’m assuming (didn’t get to see them…)
[] Counselor Rec: She told me it was outstanding.
[] Hook (if any): None that I know of.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Illinois
[] School Type: Very large public school
[] Ethnicity: Indian
[] Gender: Female
[] Intended Major: No idea!
[] major strength/weakness: Grades aren’t exactly perfect
[/ul]Other Factors: I’d say my strength was violin - I sent in a CD and had my teacher of eight years write me a great letter (focused on our really fun teacher-student relationship as well as my experiences with music) and I have participated in CD recordings, lots of concerts and performance groups, and an international tour so I think that was the strongest part of the app.

Congrats to everyone who got in! And good luck to everyone else. :)
