*Official Decision Thread*

Brown-- I'm intrigued. Are you writing a fiction novel? That would be like my dream come true. So you already have a publisher? Alright I'm just in awe....

Good luck everyone who has yet to hear.....

SS,
what makes you say "everybody?" I've only briefly looked over the thread, but it looked like only one person with both schools said they probably will go to Bates because Bates offered more money. The schools are obviously pretty similar, although it seems like each may attract a little different of a student body. I don't think you could go wrong either way. Colby, atleast to me, seemed a little more athletic and Bates a tad more artsy, maybe? Someone more familiar with the schools could probably offer much more insight than I, however. I personally chose Colby.

I got waitlisted at Bates; I got into Colby. However, that really says nothing. My colby interview and essays were much better than my bates stuff. However, even before my decisions, i knew i preferred colby to bates. Why? Bates is too artsy, I believe. Colby is closer to the Williams mold, I believe. Bates is closer to the Swarthmore mold.

haha, we used the same word to describe bates. and when i said in the williams mold, i implied athleticsm. I guess that is a definitive answer, then, if we say exactly the same thing at exactly the same time!

Wow, congrats to all you guys, and don't worry about being waitlisted, there's still hope!! (everything happens for a reason guys, chins up!)

werD

wildcatdude,
when I said everybody I was not talking just about this thread, I think I saw quite a few Bates over Colby posts on other threads. I don't know maybe I am imagining things...
Yep, it's probably just me... I am in doubt...sort of

5. Aid offer's 10000 short.

true: yes, it is fiction. ("novel" always refers to fiction. There is no such thing as a non-fiction novel) I have dialogue with publishers, but I don't have a set publisher yet. Recently, I've been researching literary agents because the only publishers that are interested in me are extremely small, and literary agents are key in getting access to bigger companies. I talked about my novel in my essay for only about three sentences though, I don't know how much it actually helped me.

Göteborg, Sweden

Hey, I'm one of those people who prefers Bates over Colby. I just feel that Bates has a friendlier and more welcoming atmosphere than Colby does. I liked Colby a lot but it seemed to have more of a rich preppy athlete kind of vibe which is not something I really want. Both schools are really similar academically so it's pretty much comes down to which school fits you better. You can't really go wrong with either of them!!!

Thanks for answering my question guys
I am not that athletic, so I might like Bates better but i still need to hear from fin aid office (was late with some of my staff, so the Aid info did not come with desicion)
Again, thanks for info.

waitlisted. Man. That's the fourth college I got waitlisted at. AHHH! I'm not going to college!!! :-P

Would any one be as kind to tell me the wording of the acceptance or rejection letters, i would really appreciate it.

acceptance:

Dear Drew:

Congratulations! Our admissions committee has completed its review of applications, and on behalf of the committee, I am delighted to offer you a place in the Colby Class of 2009.

Roughly 4,000 students competed for the 500 places available to entering students in September. It was our strongest applicant pool ever! More than 200 applicants earned admission to the College via Early Decision, and our committee filled the remaining places, about 300, from a group of candidates more than twelve times that size. Your application distinguished you in this extremely competitive process, and we have admitted you to an exceptional Colby class.

My colleagues and I are excited about the possibility of your enrolling at Colby and look forward to learning your college choice as soon as possible. To tell us your decision, please return the enclosed Enrollment Response Card, postmarked not later than Monday, May 2. If you intend to enroll at Colby, as I hope you do, please submit a deposit of $300 with this card and arrange to have your college counselor send a final transcript of your secondary school work to our office by July 15. We shall credit the nonrefundable enrollment deposit toward your first semester tuition charge.

Please feel free to contact me, or others at Colby, as you make your enrollment choice. If you have easy access to the Internet, you might also find it helpful to visit our web site for the Colby Class of 2009 at:

As with all offers of admission, I extend this offer to you with the understanding that your record of achievement, both academic and personal, will remain at least at the level it was when we reviewed your application. I have every reason to believe that this will be the case.

I applaud your accomplishments and am eager to welcome you to Colby as a member of the Class of 2009.

Sincerely,

HOPE THIS HELPS YA wIZARD :-)

How many of you guys got a likely letter? Did any of you not get a likely letter?

hey all,

I was rejected from Bates, waitlisted at Middlebury, and accepted at Colby...talk about a mixed bag. It's weird, too, because I really went out of my way to show that I was interested in Middlebury - ED II, two interviews (alum and on-campus), overnight visit, extra rec, etc. etc. With Colby, I applied without visiting, or interviewing even, and somehow I got in. My stats are really on the low side, i think -

GPA: about 3.6W, 3.3ish UW
SAT I: 800V/650M, 750 Writing, 760 Lit, 690 French sans listening
Hook - I dunno - good essays and recs, I think. self-designed independent study this year. pretty good ECs.
Attending: I'm not sure. I'm so lucky to have gotten in, but I am still waiting on a few other schools. And I'm definitely going to visit.

To all of you who were rejected/waitlisted, though, from here or from anywhere - please don't think anything of it. We've all said it, but it's worth repeating; it's so true - admissions is just plain random these days. I think we're all very intelligent, conscientious people, and we'll all do well and be very happy somewhere. There are many paths to happiness, and to greatness. :) Please don't worry too much.

Anyway, personally I've decided to resign from CC, since I'm kind of sick of thinking about it all. Thanks to all for your support, and good luck! - i'm sure you'll all do great.

Yeah, I know. I never visited, interviewed, or anything. They're bringing me down to visit campus now. Anybody else visiting on the 2-4 of April?

Same, actually. its pretty strange. I would visit sooner, but open house days are the 8, 11, and 18th, so I think I'll wait for those...

Accepted
