Official Decisions Roster

it's a good choice, i did the same thing
:)

holy crap.... people are turning down princeton to go to Medill? I mean, i can understand why someone would prefer chicago to new jersey, and medill is tops, but holy crap. As much of an NU supporter as I am, thats a decision that I dont even think I would make.

Now, the prospect of studying with princeton-caliber students, thats exciting.

god, Im never going to be able to make a decision.

Haha same thing, TheCity

well actually, i turned down princeton for hpme and mccormick.
but i do love northwestern!

Accepted: Harvard, Stanford, Brown PLME, Rice, Emory Scholars (full tuition), Rochester REMS
Going to Northwestern HPME!

aye caramba, you med nerds are just too much.

hey all...no, i'm not going to northwestern, i'm going to princeton (sorry for the confusion, pinkdillo). i like northwestern and everywhere else i got into a lot--they're all amazing schools--but i LOVE LOVE LOVE princeton. Tigers '09!

i would go to medill if i knew for sure that i wanted to go into journalism, but i'm just not sure at this point in time. plus, princeton has some special journalism programs that i hope to join.

as for all of you genius hpme people, i completely understand the decision. unfortunately, being so terrible at math and harboring an intense hatred for chemistry...i could never get into hpme and didn't even think of applying!

yea, turnin down harvard for Northwestern's HPME. It's a hard decision but Northwestern is amazing and I love the HPME program

afaforce!!!! I got 'em!!!!!!

I just found out that I was selected to receive two scholarships! One's the 2005 Rose Bud Award for community service (five receipients total each getting $500) and the other is the John Craig Allen Scholarship! The info for that scholarship is below:

John Craig Allen Scholarship

Eligible Applicants: Battle Creek area public high school graduating seniors.
Selection Criteria: Character and citizenship, industry and effort, test data and grades received in high school.
Mr. Allen was a highly respected English teacher at Battle Creek Central High School from 1926 to 1936. Mr. Allen loved
music and dramatics and often traveled to New York and Europe to see top programs. He died on September 18, 1986, and
left the major portion of his estate to the Battle Creek Community Foundation to be used for scholarships.
Selection By: Battle Creek Community Foundation Volunteer Committee.
Average grant amount: $2,000; Number of grants: four
Renewable up to four years
Support materials: Attach the General BCCF Scholarship Essay explained on the last page of application.

Besides the above, I also already have the $2,500 dollars for passing all of the areas (in other words, scored a 1 or 2 on all of them) in the MEAP test during junior year, and several other scholarships that I applied for this year are still pending so there's a possibility thqat I may be getting even more money. I'm so happy right now!

BTW, I hope that you receive some good news on your scholarships in the next few weeks! Good luck!

omg!! reese, that's awesome!!! lol free money ROCKS

wow you're winning a lot, that's really good =) =)
adds up to quite a bit, and seems like a pretty good deal just for filling out some papers right? lol

congrats again!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm still awaiting news for my scholarships.. i figure it's just icing on the cake. won't be too disappointed if i don't get them because they're pretty selective. and i feel honored just being nominated =P

Hey afaforce!

I have some more good news. Today, I found out that I was selected to interview for the Curtis Memorial Scholarship next Wednesday at 10:00 am! Unlike the other scholarships that I've received so far (which allow students from several high schools in our area to apply to which was why I was so happy and surprised to have been granted them), this one's just for students at my home school. However, the only students that can apply for this one are those with disabilities (One of the essays that I had to write for it asked about how I have overcome my own disability as well as what my disability entails exactly). It's $1,000, and I believe it's renewable for four years. I hope that I have the same luck as I had with those other scholarships with this one, but I'll still be happy that I just got the interview if it turns out that I don't get it.

How are you coming with your scholarships, and what are your feelings (as of now) about UPenn?

Hey hey reese
i'm actually really not doing any scholarships. handed one crappy one in two days ago because i did it at the last minute.. yeah i don't think i have any left. haha. maybe one?

i sent in my reply card saying "yes" to penn so that's where i'm headed next year X)
and LUCKILY i'm not having major regrets yet. i'm really indecisive lol... but yeah it's really nice to have made a choice. ahh... (sigh of relief)
APs and stuff are coming up and they actually matter this year since I know I can get credit for some of the stuff i take nooooo!! ahh!

For Fun and because I'm bored, I'm going to post something here.

Decision: Waitlisted

Stats:
SAT: 1500
SAT IIs: 740 on chem, bio, writing, 790 on math IIC
GPA: unknown
Rank: 15/531
Other stats: Yeah, I'm an officer of everything I do, which would be like, 5 activities.

Subjective:
Essays: considering I did the essay on December 29th, I really can't blame them for waitlisting me.
Teacher Recs: didn't read
Counselor Rec: didn't read, but I'm pretty sure it was really good.
Hook (if any): TAKE ME I'M ASIAN. Lol. just kidding.

Location/Person:
State or Country:New Jersey
School Type: big public, big for this area in any case
Ethnicity: asian
Gender: female
major strength/weakness: music, leadership, community involvement, politics, etc. etc. etc., but the guy never called me for an interview, and i never called them for the guy's number
why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: i really don't care at this point.

Other Factors:
--uhm, i like the color purple?

Yeah, I'm kinda bored, too (and I haven't posted anything anywhere on CC in a while so...) though I was in the newspaper today which was pretty cool. Apparently, I was the only one that received the full $500 Rosebud Award (as well as a plaque and a boquet of red roses at a luncheon yesterday) for my community service from the Rotary Club. The other four receipients only received $100 and were runners up. Art Allsgood received the official Red Rose Award (the adult version of the Rosebud Award). He seemed like a pretty cool guy-even though I don't think he received free money! Oh well. I can't get too cocky in here yet. I have another interview tomorrow for another scholarship so I'm stopping now (don't want to "burn any bridges" in here just in case someone in here knows some people in my area).

qtip - Why did you wait until Dec. 29th to write your essays?! Good grief (going Peanuts style here)! Your stats are in their range! Oh jeez... Oh well. At least you got waitlisted and still have a chance of getting accepted instead of getting flat out rejected. That's a plus.

Oh well. I better try and pry myself away from the computer screen. I have a logical fallacies exit "quiz" tomorrow (I studied for it and feel pretty confident about it but...), an annotation due Thursday (did most of the annotation, still have to do the analysis), a calculus quiz on Thursday, and an anatomy test on Friday (not really worried about).

gooooooood luck tomorrow reese =)!

Thanks afaforce. I'll probably need it.

reeses414: Lol. I dunno. It took me the entire day to write it, but I still can't recall which topic I did. I am the biggest procrastinator when it comes to essays. I think the problem with Northwestern's was that it required me to write a WHOLE NEW 500 word essay, and I already had a nice little 500 word essay that I literally sent out to every single college I applied to, so just thinking about a whole new essay was a pain in the butt that I kept putting off.

qtip - Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm kind of procrastinating right now. I should be working on my annotation analysis, but instead, I'm checking CC and Facebook (which made my day actually since I contacted someone that I know at Harvard, and... he remembers me!!! I was kind of questioning that since I haven't talked to him since last year. I'm going to have to see if I can find other people from last year's class when I get the time. I don't think many people from my class are on there yet). I really have to get going on that.

I think that the interview went well, but I'm not sure if I'll get the scholarship due to the competition component of it. Oh well. If I don't get it, I still have the other two that I did get and of which I am very proud.

Oh. By the way, my profile is at http://umichigan.thefacebook.com/profile.php?id=2227891 if anyone's interested. Yes, I'm still procrastinating.
