I’m admitted but I just realized tha I don’t really have a major…
My application says Business Unassigned or something like that.
When i filled out my application back in October, that was the only business “major” I could pick.

mvlc, for the business school, everyone is “business unassigned” for the first two years. you declare a major junior year. i personally like this system.

As to the difference between engineering and LAS computer science programs you can start your research as to the varying course requirements here and click on the specific majors: [Course Information Suite, Course Catalog, Class Schedule, Programs of Study, General Education Requirements, GenEd](<a href=“Course Explorer”>Course Explorer)

A main difference between engineering CS and LAS programs is that the LAS programs do not require chemistry and physics courses usually required by the engineering college but CS classes are mainly the same and the LAS degrees require more upper level math. As to job impact differences, the jury is still out since the recognition of the LAS CS majors as curently consituted is of recent origin (for years in LAS you had a math major and could minor in CS). The hope is that the LAS degree will be just as lucrative as the engineering degree. The engineering college has more prestige out in the real world of hiring but the change is a move in the direction of hopefully expanding that prestige.

As Drusba said, the LAS classes don’t require the chem/physics courses. All the CS classes are pretty much the same as the engineering college CS.
I applied to LAS because I felt that my stats weren’t up to par of the engineering college.
Hoepfully, I’ll be able to transfer sophomore year.

Drusba, please correct me if I am wrong:
The transfer requirements to go into CS - Eng is just the CS classes.
So, hopefully when I transfer I won’t have to take physics/chem!

I believe COE has more prestige in CS than LAS.

"English Composition (RHET 105, 4 hours).
Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 (MATH 220 or 221 and MATH 231, 8 hours).
General Chemistry, normally a two-course sequence with both courses required (CHEM 102/103 and CHEM 104/105, 8 hours). Note that some programs in the College of Engineering require only one semester of Chemistry (i.e., Comp E, EE, CS, and Nuc E).
Engineering Physics, the first course in calculus-based mechanics (PHYS 211, 4 hours). "

I hope English Composition would be common to LAS. You will be covering MATH 220 or 221 and MATH 231 under Statsitics & Comp Scince.

The only extra courxes you will have to take are Chemistry & Engineering Physics.

This is my analysis per their website info.
