good luck to all you mid/east coasters

i'm sorry to hear that, hereiam, but do you consider to be on the waiting list for caltech.

how many people responded to be put on waiting list last year? how many of them eventually were accepted?

Hereiam
Be patient; I've known kids to get in off of waitlist. Make sure you send back postcard circling you wish to stay on waitlist, then think if there are things you'd like to update (some award or a project you've been working on), or an additional letter of reccommendation. I wouldn't bombard the ad committee with insignificant data, but in the past 4 months, you may have something to add to application.
Your stats are certainly good. If you truly want Caltech, your enthusiasm will show thru.

[] Ethnicity:Asian
[] Gender:Male
[] major strength/weakness: all round academics and decent ECs/nothing mindblowing when it comes to awards
[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I have no freaking idea!!! [/li][/ul]Other Factors: Too happy to come up with anything else

Are decisions only by mail? No place to check online?

Oh and what do you mean by hook?

Thanks everyone. I really don't feel bad much because I got accepted to Amherst, Williams, UCLA, and UNC-CH also got a likely letter from Columbia and Dartmouth. And I'm still waiting for a bunch of colleges(MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and so on).

royrules22: A hook is basically something that sets you apart from other applicants. It could be winning a national competition, doing research, etc. Some hooks are better than others, but eh.

I'm not an adcom, but I like to think of hooks as a person's most unique or significant or noteworthy achievement. Consequently, I feel that everyone has a hook of some sort, but clearly not all hooks are equal - and some Caltech applicants have some ridiculously amazing achievements.

Way to go ramsfan! What sport(s) do you play? Also, which Rams are you a fan of?

Haha, I play tennis...and my sn is more a play on words, although I do like the St. Louis Rams to a degree.
