Official Decisions Thread

Actually, there are three versions: $5,000, $10,000, and now $15,000. I got the $15,000 John F. Oberlin Scholarship, and to clarify, it's all merit.

there must be more than one version, mine is 12k, thats why i think its need based, not merit based, but maybe they award it based on merit, and the amount fluctuates on need?

"maybe they award it based on merit, and the amount fluctuates on need?"

The only reason I don't think so is because my EFC is enormous and qualifies me for little (if any) need-based aid. My other financial aid packages from different schools reflect this.

accepted,
i got john stern scholarship for math and science, 68K grant (i didn't apply for FA)

woah, ok..well then, that'll be announced at graduation.

I had been under the impression that snobby little LACs like these didn't give merit aid "because all of their applicants are so talented".. guess not... guess that makes me "the best of the best"... sweet jesus.

Waitlisted...go figure. But it's alright, I'll stay on the list and see if I make it. I had a 30 ACT, 3.98 GPA, and 750/720/680 SAT IIs. Oberlin's app wasn't too in depth so I'm not suprised I didn't make it in. Congrats to all you scholarship finalists!

Yeah. The Oberlin app wasn't too in depth. It takes a really good "Why Oberlin" essay in order to stand out. I talked about swimming, activism, how I thought Oberlin was like an intellectual sanctuary, and goofy stuff like ninjas and ultimate frisbee. My teachers said it was pretty good, but that I should have talked more about academics and activism than the silly stuff, but I sent it before I asked for input. Either way, I got accepted. I think being a swimmer that talked to the coaches and stuff helped a ton. My stats are pretty low.
