Official Decisions

Don't wait! Accost him, lol. I stopped my mailwoman down the street to get my UNC letter. I guess she was used to it; she just handed me the letter. :)

i'm gonna walk down to the post office in the morning to get my mail before the dude comes.

Decision:Fat Packet!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1370
[] SAT IIs: 780IIC/670Eng/650Wr/800Histo
[] GPA: 3.7 uw, 4.5 w
[] Rank: top 2%, #5/440
[] Other stats: 8 AP classes, 6 this year. History-5, ApLit-3
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: completely godawful. I gave up on applying, so i missed the deadline. 2 weeks later, I got an email from UChicago checking to see if i've forgotten to press the submit button on the app, so i changed my mind, threw 3 essays together and submitted!
[] Teacher Recs: not bad, but does it really matter in the long run?
[] Counselor Rec: probably terrible. My counselor told me that JC's were the way to go for me.
[] Hook (if any): Taught first grade at my old chinese school.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Illinois!
[] School Type: Public, and the worst kind of public school you can have.
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: strength- a ton of EC's, hardest schedule in the school. Weakness- really low SATs.
[li] why you think you were accepted: no idea, but i'm thrilled to have the fat packet. =)[/li][/ul]

Any idea how long a couriered packet might take to reach Canada? Does it travel any faster than first class, or not?

Monkeys, let me be the first to offer congratulations! Way!!!!!!!

Decision: Waitlisted
Applied as a bio major

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1550 (800 M 750 V)
[] GPA: 3.6-3.65 (School doesn't have GPAs)
[] Rank: No ranks either
[] Other stats: APs: 5 Calculus BC Taking: Chem, Physics, Bio

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: U of C's essay was the first essay I wrote, and I had a lot of fun writing it. However, I made a huge mistake. I wrote it initially in third person, then decided to change it to first. Unfortunatly I left 1 paragraph in third person, which really made it sound akward (and broke an English 101 rule).
[] Teacher Recs: 2 recs: I don't know, but I assume they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, unsure, but my counselor and I are close.
[] Hook (if any): Varsity Athlete (Cross Country, Chess, and Track); did research at University of Chicago and another project at Northwestern; 250+ hours community service; other activities and extracurriculars not as important to me

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: Public (it is a math and science school)
[] Ethnicity: Indian (Asian)
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness:
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: My gpa is fairly low, but the school I go to is difficult. I think the major issue is that I screwed up my essay badly... Oh well
[/ul]Other Factors:

The doctor I work under at NW wrote me an amazing rec. I also co-authored a medical paper that will be published (from NW).

anyone from CA heard yet?

sweetdreams these people are from IL - maaaybe we'll get our letters tomorrow, but more likely, friday or saturday.

dude, you never know who will get accepted or rejected anymore. i bet it all comes down to the subjective debates they have behind closed doors if your GPA and SAT are decent (25%-75% people)

well, looks like the IL people got their decisions in the mail today. That means they mailed it on tuesday? maybe, hopefully it will get here tomorrow? hmmm

according to the uchicago website, they were mailed yesterday (the 29th)

Yup, i'm waiting in cali too... reallyyyyy not very optimistic after a string of rejections/waitlistings so we'll see if chicago shall join their dismal ranks. I think we'll probably get ours friday/saturday- my letter from oberlin, sent out last thursday isn't even here yet. It's like we're a bloody island or something

Keep your spirits up, wondrlst! I say a little prayer for all of you... MonkeysthatRalley: YAY!

Congratulations everyone! Good luck to everyone who is waiting. I'm not feeling very optimistic at all about the status of my own app. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I <3 UChicago! :)

definitely, I am feeling pretty hopeless considering Nowalt was waitlisted, I think he has amazing stats, how could he not get in!? Besides the essay thing, he seems like the perfect applicant.... Dang I am way out of my league here.

I actually think I have a decent shot but I keep putting myself down and telling myself that I am rejected for one reason: the gods always strick me down when i'm arrogant. it is a rule of nature, i can't ever get number one when i boost that i did but when ever i feel down, i always get it.

I definitely know what you mean, I am that annoying girl who tells everyone she is going to fail a test or just bombed one and then we get back grades and I got like a 95. I just can't help feeling insecure about it and I feel like I am guarding against disappointment. It's all about the karma....

still you are indirectly boasting.... be wary of confidence in any of its evil forms

Decision: waitlisted.

hahaha oh well. I think I let it slip that they weren't my #1 choice. Oops. I really wanted my friend to get in (she was deferred EA) but she was also waitlisted :(

Oh I'm from IL btw. Good luck to the rest of you!

Stats:
SAT 1560 780M 780V Nation Merit Semifinalist
ACT 35
GPA: 3.0/4 UW rank: 65/428
AP tests: 5's and a couple 4's on 7 AP tests to date: Calculus BC, Chemistry, English Lang., US History, Europ. Hist., Economics, Psychology
Essay: Excellent
Recommendations: Decent, but not that great
Extra-curriculars: Good
Just goes to show how little test scores matter.

What is the likelyhood of getting accepted after being waitlisted? And also, when do you think they will get back to us waitlistee's (around mid-May?).
