Is the office of admissions open on Sat?

I just looked and the website is down. Maybe they are putting up results?

Don’t think so. WA has hours of operation - it’s closed during 4-6 am for Mon-Fri. I heard that decisions are loaded during this time, though.

nothing ahh maybe next week.

I was deferred to UMichigan too. Does anyone know if Michigan cares more about grades than SATs? I have a 4.45 Weighted GPA (4.54 and all A’s this semester) but only a 27 ACT… Colleges are being really tough on kids that don’t score high on the SAT/ACT :(

Well, the one kid from my school who got in only had a 27 on the ACT, but a 4.0 (unweighted) GPA. To be fair, though, I think she was going to the one school they have for the arts, not LSA or CoE or anything. I’m not really sure what to make of it, especially considering everyone thought SHE was the one who was going to be deferred… still. Mich loves GPA a ton, it seems, so I’m sure you’ve got a good chance. :)

Are you instate, if I may ask?

my WA isn’t working, and it’s not 4 AM…could they be loading decisions? haha.

Oh yeah, it is down. Hmm

WA closes early on Saturdays (11pm). So unfortunately, I don’t think it’s anything major.

On the subject of GPA v test scores: I know an in-stater with a 27 on the ACT, but a 3.9 GPA and legacy. They got in EA, while me from a different school also in-state, have a 3.55 GPA and a 32 on the ACT and was deferred.

There are websites, like *****, which will graph U of M’s acceptances compared to applications by GPA and test scores. It doesn’t distinguish in and out of state, although intuitively, the bar is higher for out of state students, and yet higher for Engineering applicants. Naviance also does this if your school uses it.

Eh. It’s frustrating having GPA be the biggest factor for decisions. :(

If GPA is the biggest factor then I’m excited because my test scores are average :/

I’m not sure how influential GPA is. I have a 28 act and 4.0 unweighted GPA(7 honors/3 APs) and got deferred. I also know of someone from my school who got a 28 act and 3.84 unweighted GPA and was accepted. There is a new speculation that those who applied were more likely to be accepted if they have a sibling currently attending the school. That is the case for about 5/10 students accepted from my school. Just a thought.

it could be any day now

Nnngh. It’s just frustrating. Then again, one of my grade’s valedictorians got deferred. To be fair though, she has a 26 ACT score (I think), and though she has a 4.0, she takes just these ridiculously easy classes. Our school doesn’t weight grades at all and only have two AP classes available, so it’s easy for people to fake their way into making their GPA look good. I’m glad UMich caught that, at least. :P

Sapharodon, that is crazy, and frustrating! If our AP’s weren’t weighted I feel certain my S would not have taken so many. It’s the only way to even crack the top 10% of his class, and they have to take ALL of them. I believe top 10% cut-off was somewhere around a 4.4… he was 28th in his class (of 956) with a 4.61!

I finished with a 4.06 and my rank is 21/343 - I was previously 26. What do you guys think? My ACT was a 25 though Any suggestions to improve my chances from getting off the deferral list?

Csinger95, there are many suggestions on this thread about what you can do while on the deferred list - this question has been asked and answered several times already. Take the time to read through this thread.

For those debating the GPA versus test scores question, last year OOS son had a 3.79 GPA (unweighted) and a 30 on his ACT, with outstanding ECs, ahtletics and awards, earned a 4.0+ during junior and senior years, and was accepted from the deferred list. I don’t think it was one single factor that earned him acceptance, rather the overall upward trend.

If you look at the Common Data set for U of M, <a href=“Office of Budget and Planning”>Office of Budget and Planning, page 8, it shows that GPA and the rigor of secondary school record are the two most important factors to U of M.

Do they always release on a Friday or is it possible that we could hear during the week?
