There's a lot of questions and people wondering which dorms are better. I figured that I would make a threat that would list all the ups and downs from every dorm. Being an incoming freshman next year, I kind of want to know all the good and bad from each dorms from any people who have lived in them. Housing applications are in a week!

If you've dormed in any of these places, please list the experience and any pros and cons. Topics covered could be Social, Comfortability, and Overall experience

This is a great idea provided people actually look at this thread and give us some advice…perhaps there are some older housing threads from last year?

From what i’ve heard, all the dorms at UW are not so good. They are my last housing option. Ive heard most of them are actually pretty boring and theres not much going on. Not to metion dorms like mcmahon that are super old look super run down. I guess greekrow is as well, but not as much. I feel like you will get a much better experience at an off campus living situation. Just my advice on living at UW.

In term of appearance, I would have to say McMahon looks better inside and out compare to the others. Plus, I think it look more modern than run-down.

Did you go inside it bothellcougar? The outside I guess could look “rundown”…but the dining area just got renovated and the lobby/main area is really nice

@heyitsmedude. I’m in the same boat. I’m rushing and that’s where ill most likely live, in a frat, but there’s always the what if, if you don’t get in. What I figured is, don’t sign up for housing. Save your 500 bucks. And worst case scenario you don’t get a bid from a frat, apply to get a room. I’m pretty sure you can just apply whenever, its just they can’t guarentee you a room. When in reality, there should be a room available. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that its possible to do that.

On the contrary you’d probably want to do the opposite. Most(all?) fraternities reimburse your housing deposit and costs if you decide to join. You don’t want to be left without a room or forced into a triple just because you changed your mind. I’m 90% joining a fraternity yet I’m definitely applying for dorm housing.

Lots of people have told me that frats are cheaper than dorms. But the fact seems like it would be IMPOSSIBLE to actually study, and since most people who actually sign up for frats are more social and not as concerned about their grades.

It doesn’t seem like anyone has actually relayed their dorm experience here though…

oh my word you guys ahaha. frats have already started rushing. you rush now and throughout the summer. then the frat decides if they want you or not, thats called offering a bid. if yes then you can choose to accept or deny the offer. both frats and sororities “rush.” its just a different procces. sororities are formal. they have designated times, they go by certain rules, etc. frats are completely imformal. they can call you to come hangout whenever, do whatever, they can offer a bid whenever, etc. theres greek 101 for ya ahah
