A couple of questions, thanks!

First, are the Units the hardest dorms to get?

Second, what are the co-ed bathrooms like? Does it really get chaotic and should I worry about the shower situation? That's pretty much what I'm concerned about. Once there's a lock and not some shower curtain, I'm good.

Third, the Units are the dorms I REALLY want to live in but studying is crucial along with being social. How bad does it get? I know I can always go to the library but I want to feel like I can study in my own room without being distracted. Possible?

The units are not the hardest dorms to get. Probably CKC doubt suite. That's my guess (if we're including only the things first years could possibly get).

For each bathroom I've seen, there is a door with lock and a curtain. Not every floor has co-ed bathrooms. if you really don't want then, and want to live in the units, request to live on a single sex floor.

How bad it gets is largely a random chance thing- if the people around you happen to be really loud, it gets loud. Some people I know have incredibly quiet floors. Most seem just fairly quiet most of the time. Everyother floor has a study lounge, and people often use other rooms, such as the washing room, for studying. Your being able to study in your room probably depends most on you and your roommate.

oh, on a side note, how long do libraires stay open? For example, is Moffitt 24/7?

No, Moffitt is not 24/7 unless it's finals time.

Check the calendars to get a general idea:

hopefully, i am not repeating a question here, but what is the ideal choice for a FRESHMAN studying at the College of Engineering? Many people say the best for freshman is simply a place at one of the units, so you can bond with the hallmates and have a great 1st year of college social life, but many also say that Foothill is ideal for CoE specific students... I want to have a relatively social life (I don't want to party too much except for maybe the first week) but focus on keeping my grades up... I know that foothill is close to engineering but does it really matter considering that I'm going to have to take a whole bunch of different GE courses anyway?

thanks for any advice

im in CoE, but i chose units 1,2,3 for all my choices for rooming. I figured, i can always go to foothill sophmore or junior year to study.

"I don't want to party too much except for maybe the first week"

No one is gonna force you to party if you don't want to.

Prospective students:

All mini suites in Units 1 and 2 will be 100% for returning students. Do not waste one of your 5 slots choices on those.

Seriously? I'm just applying for housing and I was about to put both Unit 1 and 2 mini-suites down...

Pretty sure. :(

Maybe it's for the best. Live there next year with your friends! :)

"Seriously? I'm just applying for housing and I was about to put both Unit 1 and 2 mini-suites down..."

You shouldn't you in first place anyways, IMO, because the traditional highrises with hallways is much more fun!

Ahh okay. :( Thanks guys. I just refuse to put down a triple so my options are a bit limited.

Well . . . Double in place x,y,z,a,b. You're set!

I don't know... I would rather stay in the units than anywhere else... even if it's a triple (I'm live in a triple now btw).

Thats how I feel tooId rather live in the Units rather than anywhere else (Clark Kerr seems far away, Ive heard bad things about Foothill, and I dont want to live in an all-female dorm). But Im picky about space and would be willing to shell out more $$ for less cramped living, thus the mini-suites but now that I know theyre not available to freshmen, I think I'll just go with DRab's rec.

"Bad things about Foothill" What do you mean?

NOTE: The Unit 3 Dining Center will be closed for renovations during Fall 2006

bad things about foothills... i'm assuming its the antisocial people who keep their doors closed and play video games.

here were my 5:
1. unit 1 double
2. unit 2 double
3. CKC double
4. unit 3 double
5. unit 1 mini suite

i didn't see the thing about unit minisuites being for returning students, or i wouldve picked CKC double suite or foothills. i really don't want to live in a triple. how hard is it to get your first choice, and what are the chances you won't get any and get stuck in bowles or something?

how social are the mini suites.. cuz i wanna live in one but i dont want to get the typical college dorm feel where your doors are always open kinda thing
