so im guessing clark kerr is tough to get as a freshman?

I really want a Clark Kerr room...

I need to ask this but I don't know how to put this delicately...

When you say that Clark Kerr is mostly filled with athletes...
Are Berkeley's athletes... What I want to really ask is if you room in Clark Kerr, you won't be surrounded by a bunch of boneheads, right?

I'm personally into athletics myself and know quite a few athletes endowed with more than athletic ability... but I've also met my school's football team.

Regarding the athletes at CKC, I'm starting to think that they (meaing the housing office) might have tried to put the athletes into specific buildings, maybe even by the sport? My building doesn't have any intercollegiate athlete except for one football player. All my floormates are non-athletes, and only play intramural or recreational, if anything.

How many rooms are in Clark Kerr suites? The online description shows a plan with two bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom. Are all the suites identical?

Yeah, I think they seperate by sport, for the most part. I have one women's rugby player on my floor - a basketball player downstairs.

Distance: a bit annoying at first but I hardly noticed it after a few weeks. My legs are super toned as a result, but I've taken to riding the city bus that runs right in the front of Clark Kerr and takes you to campus. It's my morning hero.

Anyway, I think it's pretty hard to get clark kerr and near impossible to get a new minisuite. They're said to be reserved for sophomores and juniors only. By all means, give it a try, but don't expect one to come your way.

Clark Kerr triples should be easy to get. I heard that a lot of people got them even though they never listed it as any of their choices.

I advise incoming freshmen to not choose suites because the traditional "hallways" are more social and better suited for freshmen (since it's going to be all freshmen and lots more peope).

is it harder for spring admits to get housing? and if you get a dorm you dont want (i.e. foothill) can you appeal for a change?

I'm actually in a mini-suite right now. You do get a lot of privacy. For example, you don't have to walk through the hall to the bathroom. But yeah, I don't talk to people in my dorm very much.

Next year I'll be living in Freeborn, which contains traditional "hallways." That would be a downgrade from where I'm living right now.

"is it harder for spring admits to get housing? and if you get a dorm you dont want (i.e. foothill) can you appeal for a change?"

Apply for one a space in the units and you will most likely get a triple. And once you are assigned a dorm, you cannot change it unless someone is willing to trade.

Just wondering: For people who choose/will choose Freeborn, is it due to your own objection to alcohol/drug consumption &/or use, or would you just rather have an environment that eliminates that distraction, so it's easier to study and such? Or is it a combo of the two? Thanks.

It's very difficult to switch dorms once you get assigned one. I was lucky in transferring out of Bowles into the mini-suites, but that was because they had an empty spot, and I bugged the hell out of the housing department. Also, I had a good reason to (which I won't say here).

It's harder for spring admits to get housing. However, most of the spring admits I know did get it.

Izziebear - for me, it's more the latter. I personally don't do any of these, though I don't mind if people do drugs, smoke, or drink, as long as they're not around me.

Hah...oh Bowles. My boyfriend lived there his first semester/half of second semester, before it was freshmen only. He got kicked out. That place is/was out of control and the authority used to be insane.

Thanks for the response nanday.

"However, most of the spring admits I know did get it."

Most? The website said ALL who applied received some spot somewhere.

do spring admits normally get put in "worse" dorms? or are they spread out among all the dorms

i was thinking of requesting to dorm with my friend who is also a spring admit. is that possible?

Freeborn is appealing to me because of the first reason. I'm not necessarily against everyone drinking or doing drugs, but I personally don't want my college experience to be that way and I would like to meet people who feel similarly as well.

i'm a spring admit and i really, really, really don't want a triple. is there any way i can get a double besides requesting a specific roommate?

i know many spring admits who got a double. my roommate for example (my roommate from the fall left to move into an apartment).

you cannot do anything that will assure you as one who is 'free from the doom of a triple'. they're not that bad, if you live in a large one..like, in clark kerr or something.

if i know who i want to dorm with already, is it easier to get a nicer dorm?
its a dumb question, i know, sorry =)
