You apply before the housing deadline designated on the housing website. They have specific deadlines for fall, spring, fall extension and transfer students.

Haha, I should look more closely. Thanks. :)

I didn't think the single-sex floor bathrooms have anything co-ed going on. Maybe the all male floors are less strict about this than the ones I witness (my friend's on an all female floor).

As to visiting dorms, during Cal Day last year, students provided organized tours. You can always ask you friends though, or do both.

Some students talk to housing even after they apply and are given a specific assignment. Some of these students get lucky. If you don't, you wasted the time it took to write a nice letter, and make a phone call. You can get lucky, you just have to put in some (very minimal) effort.

I wouldn't call the units "cramped" on-the-whole, and I think that many would generally agree with me. Freshman can do well at any place, but certain types of people would prefer one or the other, or Foothill, or the mini-suites.

with the meal plan cards, do extra accumulated points (from non-use) go to waste, or are there places where people can go to use up all the points by buying...items?/groceries?/other non-perishable items?

Is housing given out on a first-come first-serve basis or can I apply after Cal Day and not "lose my place in line"?

taken from the housing application page for berk...

"Assignment Process
Assignments are made according to a random lottery number system, not on a first come, first served basis. After each housing deadline, applications are processed and assigned a random lottery number. Starting with lottery number 1, students are assigned to available space in each hall. As halls are filled and students' first preferences are not available, second preferences are considered and assigned if space permits. This process continues through the fifth preference. As halls fill, we may be unable to offer students any of their five choices. See Application Instructions for Question #11 for more information."

1) Do Regents Scholars get priority housing?

2) Are the Clark Kerr suites mostly upperclassmen? Do they tend to not socialize with incoming freshmen? Also, do more people tend to stay in their rooms in the CKC suites?

3) Can someone describe a CKC suite to me? What is it like? I saw the schematic on the berkeley website and it was kinda confusing.

ALSO...

1) which unit is the best out of the three?
2) is foothills a separate dorm from CK and units?

My friend lives in Unit 3 Cleary, and it's super nice. I don't know, I think overall, they're pretty evenly matched, except Units 1+3 > Unit 2.

Yes.

is foothill not a nice dorm? no one ever talks about it on this thread.

I always thought unit 3 was the worst.

are you a current cal student?

No, but I thought it was just known that unit 3 was the worst. I also got to go inside and look around and it didnt seem that nice.

I think it's fine. It resembles a ski lodge. The location is different than the units, so it's more isolated and quiet. Many of the rooms have common areas with other people's rooms attactched, so hallways can seem like little communities. People say that the food is worse than anywhere else, but the one time I ate there, I found it to be the same as crossroads. I am not very familiar with Foothill, only somewhat.

People don't like Foothill because it is seen as anti-social. I heard that people there usually lock themselves in their rooms to study or play dota.

wait so dorm sign-ups are 1st come 1st serve?? Or everyone has same chance for their 1st choice dorms as long as he turns in app. by deadline? Also, do regents scholars have priority or something like that?

haha never mind. i found the answer on another thread! and wow bad grammar-- change their to his

1) Is all feedback on Foothill negative?
Is it really that antisocial?
2) Do most frosh get triples, or is there chance for a mini-suite somewhere (if I'm a Regent's Scholar)?

I've lived in Foothill for three years.

In my experience, Foothill people are social. But they are not social ANIMALS. Meaning that, they are generally a nice friendly bunch when they choose to come out of their rooms and interact but will, in general, stay in their rooms and study/watch anime/play computer games and not come out except to eat or go to the bathroom.

Thanks greatestyen.

Another question, when the Berkeley Housing site says:
QS - Quad Room in Suite
TS - Triple Room in Suite

That means that (Quad) there are 4 double rooms within a suite and (Triple) there are 3 double rooms within a suite, right? That does NOT mean that it is a suite with 4 or 3 people in a room, RIGHT? :

Also, do Quad and Triple suites have one bathroom with just one toilet and shower, or one bathroom with 2 showers/toilets?
I'm trying to find a floor plan online, but I'm having trouble.

Thank you!
