[] Volunteer/Community service: Tons of community service, but only 105~ hours on transcript (I hate the idea of reporting hours)
[] Summer Activities: College classes, Boys State, Academy leadership seminars, and others
[] Essays: My commonapp essay was decent
[] Teacher Recommendation: One was fantastic, no idea about the other
[] Counselor Rec: She loves me, but she can't write for the life of her
[li] Interview: Absolutely fantastic. I think it may have helped me get in.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): FL
[] School Type: Average, large, public. Mean SAT is 480~ for every section.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: 100,000~ (middle class)
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None that I know of

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: EC passion, awards, and reccomendations.
[] Weaknesses: Essay (rushed) and my freshman year grades.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred//waitlisted/rejected: I caught the eye of someone on the admissions committee[/li][/ul]General Comments: This was a fantastic surprise after my waitlist from UChicago yesterday. Its great to know that no matter what happens with the rest of the schools that I applied to, I am already in to one of the best schools in the world. Congrats to those that got in. I have seen the stats of those that were rejected/waitlisted and I can say with honesty that you are an exceptional and amazing group of people. I have no idea how I got in and you didn't. Keep looking forward, I'm sure you have some good news on the way!

Decision: SCREWED OVER; PRATT

Stats:

* SAT I (by section): 760 CR, 800 M, 770 W (11 Essay)
* SAT IIs: 800 Bio-E, 800 Math II, 790 Chem, 780 Math I
* ACT:
* APs: 5s on Chem, Bio, Calc AB, Calc BC (and AB subscore)
* IBs:
* GPA: ~3.8
* Rank: ~30/157
* Other stats: lots of dual-enrollment classes; advanced math (calc 3, lin. alg, diff eq), chem, bio etc.

Subjective:

* ECs listed on app: Science Bowl (went to nationals), Math Team, Tennis, Knowledge Bowl, other crap
* Job/Work Experience: tutoring, research shadowing, bio/math research internship
* Essays (subject and responses): don't remember/don't want to look it up, but they were decent and well-done
* Teacher Recs: pretty good, bio prof and chem teacher who have known me for a long time
* Counselor Rec: don't know how good, probably generic
* Applied on: RD, right before deadline
* Hook (if any): National Merit Finalist? idk, National Science Bowl (maybe)

Location/Person:

* State or Country: WA
* School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): rural college-town high school, decent but nothing great
* Ethnicity: Asian (indian)
* Gender: Male

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I'm an Asian male whose stats aren't perfect, so I kinda expected this, but I was hoping that I had a small chance. Perhaps if I hadn't gotten a C+ in a book-reading class last spring or a C in English mid-semester (it'll be changed...but too late for admissions), things would be okay. Bs probably would have been acceptable enough, but the Cs dropped my GPA and class rank. ANYWAYS. Congrats to those who got in; enjoy your time if you go.

[] Strengths: when I do something, I put everything into it.
[] Weaknesses: inconsistency.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred//waitlisted/rejected: I've given up trying to analyze decisions because they just make me feel inferior haha. Kind of sucks because I liked Duke, but then again, I didn't really have a first choice so I'll see what happens in the next few days.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments:
Wow, looking at the people accepted here, you are an AMAZING group of people and I wish you all the best! To those who were rejected/fellow waitlisters, I'm trying to hope that we'll all end up somewhere that we'll be happy.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred//waitlisted/rejected: Essays. Period. [/li][/ul]General Comments:

oof, now I have to choose b/t two of my favorite colleges -- Duke and UChicago.

CONGRATS TO ALL ACCEPTEES!

^ LOL! Those are perhaps the two most polar opposite top 10 schools ever.
Day and night, in terms of 3 key attributes: weather, prevalence of hot girls, and social life in general.

Not to diss UofC (great school!), I just happen to prefer a place where the fun doesn't come to die :p

Damit, rejected at my #1 school :(. I feel so down right now. Yes, I know I will succeed elsewhere but I really wanted to go to Duke for the social life/ campus :(. Congrats everyone, you are all so dam fortunate to have the option of enrolling at Duke!

haha...hookem you are right, but who wouldn't want to go somewhere fun goes to die??
Where the guys look like Woody Allen and the girls do too?

Actually, I think that type of quirky, intellectual, self depreciating atmosphere is perfect for me. At the same time Duke has its upsides, namely 1. the couches in the Bryan Center. 2. gondola cafe tables and 3. the work hard-play hard mantra.

My decision will probably hinge on financial aid.

Haha I love Duke and UofC! Some people could fit into both. Too bad UofC waitlisted me lol
