Hey all, there is a spelling mistake in the other one, and no one seems to be using it. I don't know if these two statements are linked in any way :)

I am only applying to Duke. Hopefully we'll all get in and meet each other!

Who else is applying? Where are y'all from?

40 views? Is anyone else on CC applying?

Isn’t the transfer acceptance rate lower than the Marianas Trench?

If the transfer acceptance rate was lower than the Marianas Trench, than it would actually be fatal. As a result of this, the number of applications would decrease because people would fear the deadly acceptance rate.

BUT, if the number of applications decreases in this way, than the acceptance rate should mathematically climb as a result.

BUT, if the acceptance rate climbs like this, then the number of applications will also rise because people will be more willing to apply.

BUT, if the number of applications increases in this way, then the acceptance rate will fall.

BUT, if the acceptance rate falls, then so do the number of applications.

And so, the endless cycle repeats. It’s a vicious, vicious predator-prey system.

$0.02

I’m applying! From New York, but went transferring from a school in the UK.
Not sure my chances are very great to be honest, but we’ll see!

LOLOLOGY ochang62, nice. Which one’s the predator and which one’s the prey?

depends on the stage of the cycle. adcom and applicant can be either. Just like lizards switching sexes during mating season.

Good luck y’all! Although I hear Durham is pretty scary.

^^^ Are you saying that males and females are like predator and prey? lol

And yeah, that’s why some of my free time will be spent at Chapel Hill if I’m accepted.

What’s so bad about Durham?

The admissions acceptance rate is extremely low…you were right.

Has anyone seen anything actually come up on their application checklist? Mine has absolutely nothing on it…

mine too… anyway, good luck to all of us!

I called Duke and they said this was do to a glitch in the system, something about trying to use the freshman format for us, so nothing shows up. She said to have patience and it should be updated soon, they will mail us letters to let us know things are missing.
She also said decisions weren’t out till the 18th of May which is a bummer, I was sure it was the 15th. =/

How confident are you guys feeling about your chances? I feel like it’s truly such a random process.

The freshman applicants got their decisions in the past two days. The Duke Chronicle published an article this week about the reformed admissions process in which less discussion would be given for more than half of the freshman applicants.

I really, really, really hope this isn’t the case for transfer applicants. After all, there’s only about 700 of us to review in 1.5-2 months, right?

Durham isn’t scary, although Duke may seem like a different world from the rest of the city. Seriously, visit the school because the campus itself is gorgeous.

^^^That’s absolutely right. I visited Duke, Durham, and Chapel Hill twice.

Oh my gosh. I have to vent some of my frustration here. I just received this email:

"Thank you for your transfer application to Duke. Since we are able to
provide financial aid only to transfer students who are citizens or Lawful
Permanent Residents of the United States, unfortunately we will be unable
to consider your candidacy.

Should you want to change your application to indicate that you will not
seek financial aid at Duke, we would be glad to consider you for a spot in
the transfer class. Please note that if you are admitted to Duke and
decide to attend, you will have to provide documentation to show that your
family can fund the costs of your time at Duke in order for us to sponsor
your visa application. If you would like to withdraw your request for
financial aid, please contact me at ----- no later than
April 9."

I AM A U.S. CITIZEN!! They have my SS number, New York State high school transcript, financial aid information of my mother and myself. Yes, I attended college in the United Kingdom, but I was born and raised here (which would be clear not only from stats, but my essays as well).

Does this mean I will automatically be rejected because of this mix-up???
I am probably over-reacting. I sent an email back stating there must have been some mistake, but what if I’m already considered out of the running?

send them a copy of your US passport. what a foot-in-mouth moment on duke’s behalf

Let us know what happens.
