BTW, 18 days...

What are u ROTC? Which branch?

hopefully Uncle Sam will chip some in for me, too..My dad's a disabled veteran (but not a lot, something like 20%) so I'll have to look into what's available as far as that goes...I don't think Georgetown would actually offer me anything, (because it's private, the UCs here waive all fees for vet's kids), but hopefully along the lines of scholarships.

I know it's incredibly impractical to be like ahh this much money for undergrad, but at the same time it's impractical for me to stay in California away from all of the internships and such..

Yes, I'm applying for ROTC scholarships for the Army and Air Force. In fact, I have my Army interview this Monday.

yeah, I told my mom the other day that I hoped I wouldn't get into Harvard.

haha, what a weird teenage rebellion. "I don't want to go to Harvard, I want to go to Georgetown!" it's so hardcore.

Josh_H.. good luck on your interview. What are you taking to the board evaluation? Who is evaluating you? (Do you know the officers?).. You're not going in uniform are you? ;-)... hehehe.. I'm pretty sure you're familiar with the board setup, so good luck!

your parents shouldn't tell u where to go, at least now. Later when you get into schools and you talk about finances, then thats different. Anyway Harvard isnt much cheaper than gtown....

babybird, you're soooo right. Our parents totally take us for granted!

What will you guys be doing with yourselves for the next 18 days? When do your semesters end, before winter break or in January?

My semester's already over. Start back January 3rd.

I am preparing for a Drill Competition (Army HS ROTC).. and helping my counselor with some of the transcripts that need to be filed away.

what kind of question is that, you just have to live your life just as you have been. Everybody ends up where there meant to be. Besides if your applying to Georgetown, your safety schools are probably other peoples reach schools, so you would be fine at any college.

anyway, my break starts late this year, 17th i think

sometimes I think that my mom wishes I was a coke addict just so she could come down harder on me. lol

for the next 18 days, I will be waking up in a cold sweat and going to sleep clutching my Gtown Hoya doll. =)

My break this year starts the 17th, too. For me, next semester starts the 2nd.

Oh, and as for the next 17 days- Dante forgot about this level of hell.

You mean the tenth level of Hell also known as "College Admissions?" Where even Satan doth not tread?

lol

Thanks, tlaktan. I'm going to take a resume and possibly a rec from my JROTC instructor. No, I'm not going in uniform, especially since my JROTC unit is Air Force (and I'm interviewing Army). I could justifiably wear it, however, since Monday my unit is participating in a Christmas parade right after school (our uniform day this week was moved to Monday for this reason). I've had a short phone conversation with the enrollement officer (who I assume will be part of the interview team), but other than him, I'm not sure who I'll be interviewed by.

tony,

it's called making conversation...sorry I even asked!

I wish my school's semesters ended before break..it's a pain in the butt to have to worry about your grades throughout Christmas (our semester ends on January 26, ouch)

and Calculus, currently, is definitely not my friend. I wish I had taken AP Stats instead!

i know your making conversation, thats fine.

Anyway, its better that you took Calc, the Gtown assitant director of admissions came to our school and said "it will be very hard for us to over look it if you did not take Calculus."

wait, are you kidding? I have not taken Calculus...but it's due to circumstances beyond my control (every time I move, I get set back a year in math)

looks like I'm being deferred then...

well, Harvard isn't the worst backup...hey, I have question. I just got a couple of significant things that I've added to my common app. Should I call Georgetown/send them something to update my file? I was appointed to my City's Library Board, and I'm a finalist now in this in-state Math competition.

Sometimes the enrollment officer is not a member of the Board. The President of the Board will probably be the MS-IV instructor, a Lieutenant Colonel.

Remember, military courtesy is essential, add the rank of whoever you're speaking to at the end of every response (or the beginning, but never say it twice..)

There are directions for reporting in boards somewhere online, but I don't quite know where it is.. Are you doing like a really formal board or just an interview? Aggh.. I like to obsess over the small little things, sorry Josh.. Just that I've gone through so many boards with Colonels and such it's like everyday for me now.. I've even had a chance to run a few.
