pretty sure they wait to notify people about full ride scholarships is bc they also have to consider the RD kids first and since they only give a small amnt of them they want to make sure the best kids actually get it.

Accepted
CBA- Business
GPA: 3.8 UW
ACT: 29
SAT IIs: X
Honors Program with 14k/year scholarship
Male
Private college prep school

seranap73- When I talked to the admissions person that came to my school, she said that according to the pattern of the last 2 or 3 years the admission pool of the regular admins was a lot stronger than the EA kids-- a lot of regular admitted that may not be as strong as the average can also be accepted for Spring Semester. But good luck, there is still a chance!

What would the typical application of the top 1-2$ of applicants be like? Any ideas?

33 ACT 35 superscored
Essay- beastly
GPA-3.7+
SAT- did not submit
School doesn’t rank.
HS type- Public college prep magnet school for “academically talented Juniors and Seniors”
Recommendations- awesome
EC- 12 Girl Scout w/ honors, band-leadership, mentorship w/ local university, clubs etc.

major: Cultural Anthropology

Honors college w/ 17K per year deans scholarship

OMG.

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 11/01
Date decision postmarked/received: 12/17
Accepted at which school/major at NEU: School of Computer and Information Science

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 1970 superscore M: 610, CR: 680, WR: 680,
[] SAT Subject Tests: 760 World History
[] GPA: 3.92 UW
[] Rank: No ranking system in our school.
[]AP/IB classes: 1 AP class in Junior Year - World History (4), 3 AP classes in my senior year - AP Chem, AP Literature, AP Calculus AB (which they never saw the grades for - Never submitted any senior year grades)
[/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: A definite stand-out. I’m an ethnic Sudanese, US-Citizen living in Khartoum, Sudan - Home to the world’s humanitarian crisis in thew world: Darfur. Talked about how my government failed my youth by providing them education, and as a consequence these kids had to live a life of poverty and join rebel forces against the government. Basically emphasized the importance of education.
[] Teacher Recs: I’m going to ASSUME they were top-notch. Both of my teachers told me they were. Was offered to read them, but I didn’t want to.
[] Counselor Rec: Apparently awesome too.
[li] EC highlights: Almost nonexistence, since our school literally didn’t provide anything besides Model United Nations and Community Service (that hardly did anything as it is). My CommonApp had an additional document that stressed how my school didn’t provide anything, due to the fact it was a very small private school with hardly any teachers, but that I took everything there was and excelled at it. [/li]President of our school’s Model United Nation.
Leadership position in our Community Service group[/ul]

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Khartoum, Sudan (country in Africa)
[] School Type: Small, private
[] Ethnicity: Sudanese - US Citizen.
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]
Other Factors, hook?: US citizen living in Khartoum, Sudan pretty much. And considering the country, and the fact hardly anyone here applies to US universities (and mean hardly - la handful), I was a definite stand-out.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to NEU…?:
$12,000 for first year, $6,000 a semester after that.
Also invited into their honors program.

Definitely one of my top unis due to how awesome the co-op program is. Was worried of not getting in due to my 610 Math Score and applying as a Comp Sci major…but it looks like the fact I took 2 programming courses that I kicked-ass in was taken into consideration. A plus to all of this? My twin brother got accepted to well, which is great. Definitely, definitely going to be considering this university. I thinly only USC, MIT, Harvard, UVA, UCLA, and Berkley could stand in the way of this. But considering that I’m pretty sure NU will be the only one out of those above that’ll provide me a scholarship, I’m probably going to end up going here!

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 10/31
Date decision postmarked/received: 12/17
Accepted at which school/major at NEU: Computer Science

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 1820 M: 590, CR: 610, WR: 620,
[] ACT: X
[] SAT Subject Tests: World History - 730
[] GPA-UW/W: 3.92 UW
[] Rank: X
[]AP/IB classes: Took AP World History junior year, got a 5 on the AP exam. At the moment, my senior year APs are AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP English Literature.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: A standout, I think - I mention the trouble I went through moving from the United States to Sudan, and my reluctance to accept my Sudanese heritage and how a certain event made me realize I shouldn’t be trying to reject my culture but instead I should be embracing it.
[] Teacher Recs: Haven’t seen them, but word is that they are great.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, I assume it’s great.
[] EC highlights: Did Model United Nations for three years, in which I was the Secretary-General of in my junior year. I also did Community Service for three years and I’m currently one of the heads of community service. Not many EC’s, but I emphasize in the additional information of my application that my school did not give us many options in the EC department.[/ul]

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Sudan
[] School Type: Private
[] Ethnicity: African
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]

Other Factors, hook?: I’m Sudanese, and only a handful of Sudanese students living in Sudan apply to universities in the US for undergrad. I also gave additional information discussing how I took basically all of the AP’s I could, so I essentially had the most rigorous course load I could have.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to NEU…?: I am ECSTATIC! Northeastern’s one of my top choices, and it’s co-op program sounds phenomenal. It’s in Boston too, a city where I really wanna go to. It’s definitely likely I’ll be going to Northeastern.

Though Northeastern was more of a safety for me, I am still seriously considering the school. I love the co-op program and Boston is simply amazing. I spent a month at NEU for a summer program and fell in love.
