Hey Josh,

Sorry to hear that man. I can see that the two officers from JROTC didn't get accepted right off the bat. :(.

Hey Josh,

Sorry to hear that man. I can see that the two officers from JROTC didn't get accepted right off the bat. :(.

Yeah, but if JROTC has taught me anything it's perserverance (even if I can't spell it!). I think we both have a pretty good chance of making it RD.

By the way, I was very surprised last night when I saw that you were deferred. I knew at that point that my chances were pretty low. But I still think that you have an awsome shot come April.

Of all sad words of tongue and pen, saddest are those: "It might have been."

Hi. I don't really have time to fill this out well, so:

Decision: Deferred (College)

Stats:

SAT: 1450

SAT IIs: 800,790,710

GPA: 92.5, sorry no 4 point scale

Rank: my school doesn't rank

Other stats: um, 4 on bio AP?

Subjective:

Essays: One OK, one excellent

Teacher Recs: Really good I think

Counselor Rec: Excellent, my counselor basically told me what she wrote

Hook (if any): My school (really competitive) should be a hook, but my classmates have been doing really badly in the early acceptances, so I guess schools aren't really digging us anymore.

Location/Person:

State or Country: New York

School Type: Public High School, but very super competitive, according to those list things, it's the top public school in the country based on college acceptances (not mine!)

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Gender: Female
Other Factors: Really good extra-curriculars. I have a million hours of service credit, and I'm on the leadership board of the Red Cross of NYC, I'm also a CPR instructor, varsity swimming, photo awards, 2 really great summer internships. I think my interview was only OK. It was pouring and I was all wet and gross and in a bad mood. Also we had completely different interests. Also, I live in NYC, which i think is a really bad thing for my chances. No legacy or anything.

General Comments: I hope i get in regular, and congrats to everyone who got in!!

Decision:ACCEPTED SFS!

Stats:
[ul]
[]SAT: 800v 700m
[]SAT IIs:790 lit, 750 w, 680 IIc
[]GPA:4.0 uw, 4.5 w

[/ul]
Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: Probably the best part of my application. My personal was actually quite creative and risky, but my SFS was linear to contrast it and well-researched because it was from a LD debate resolution
[]Teacher Recs: My Gov teacher said I was the most dedicated intellectual she'd ever taught and that my future university would be accepting a probable Rhodes scholar, so really, quite good.
[]Counselor Rec: Didn't read it, my principal did it because my school doesn't have a college counselor. I doubt it was all that great, but she said it was rather good.
[]Hook (if any): No one from my entire county (let alone high school) has ever applied to Georgetown. I really help define that rural quota they're trying to meet.

[/ul]

General Comments: This is, without a doubt, the best feeling I have ever had. It is an instant validation of everything I ever worked for. Good luck for everyone in the RD round, I cannot see how they could have deferred most of you!

General Comments: feh. April is far too long of a wait.

You know what, babybird. With your stats, I'd be really, really surprised if you didn't get in in April. If you send in additonal stuff (a personal letter and perhaps another rec) you'll surely get in, I PROMISE!!

oh man, thanks, aluka. I have this bad feeling that my lack of anything math/science really hurt me. but hey, 3 and a half months and counting down right? mebbe i should start another countdown thread, haha

don't worry, the time will go by really fast. Senior year is really busy for most people.

btw, what other country do you have a dual citizenship for? I am a dual citizen as well. Canadian because I was born in Canada and Polish because that's where my parents are from. THough I am desperately trying to get a US citizenship!!

the United Kingdom

my dad lives there and I go visit him every year...
good luck with your US citizenship!

"Why does SFS have to be so competitive. 'Tis the school of my dreams, now I have to fill out another 8 applications."

So true, so true. I've got to fill out another 7. :)

luckily my GC had the foresight to tell me to get my applications in earlier than December 13th-15th. So I'm done, pretty much. It's almost worse than not being done, because all I have is time to think about this EA thing.

To future seniors, I'm recommending they not even go through the EA process...it just hurts too much to get bad news so early in the year...

Quote: "To future seniors, I'm recommending they not even go through the EA process...it just hurts too much to get bad news so early in the year..."

True, but at the same time, an acceptance can truly ease a lot of stress for the rest of senior year. At the very least, it gives another option. If a person were not to apply EA anywhere, that person would have to wait to April regardless. If they apply EA, they at least have the possibility. Bad odds are better than no odds.

I think it's more likely to increase stress than relax it...fewer people get in EA...and it's so competitive...and the waiting time is so compact. Just some observations.

Is it just me, or did Georgetown only accept valedictorians?

waiting is tough for sure. But it would be worse to simply wait until April, with nothing but "what-if"s. Applying EA basically gives you two chances. It's def. worth it.

I got accepted and I'm not valedictorian, probably not even close.
