Easier French is a good thing. GWH, I just made up for George Washington Honors.

Ohhh... gotcha. Which school did you apply to at Gtown? SFS?

I just applied to the college - would I have been better off at SFS? I don't love foreign languages, so I thought that the college would be the best for politics.

No, you would not have been better off at SFS. It is more competitive.

If you're interested in government, then the College is best. For international relations/politics/affairs, SFS is the best.

And how can you not love foreign languages? As a French major, I am offended! LOL just kidding... :p

Try having a teacher who BARELY speaks English, hates kids, and gives us a quiz, written, or oral exam every day. I think that given a better experience with French, I may be majoring in it. I get all A's; it's just a huge pain in the ass to sit through that class.

Calidan, Are you going to Gtown? What were your stats?

George Washington Honors

As of right now, it does look as though I am heading off to Georgetown next fall.

My stats:
-SAT: 1410 (710 M, 700 V)
-SAT IIs: 800 French, 760 Writing, 700 Math IC
-GPA: 3.8 UW, no rank
-ECs: piano, founder/president of 2 clubs (one being the French Honor Society), track and field, hospital volunteer, current events club, SPCA volunteer
-excellent essays and recs (IMO, these are what got me in)

EDIT: I also took 3 college credit classes (Italian, International Relations, and Geology), along with Spanish throguhout High School. I think that taking three Romance Languages definitely helped get me in, too.

I think that's about everything. If I'm missing anything, just ask! ;)

I am the public relations officer for French Honors Society at my school. Yeah, FHS! What's IMO stand for?

In My Opinion

are the scores 1340/30, 720, 710, 630 (sat 2's for the last 3 scores) going to push me out of the running for georgetown rd? i already sent my app in...like a month and a half ago, but i just want to know how much of a chance i have...like 10%ish? or less? or more? know this is a little bit out of place, but you all seem like the ones to know

You should try to bring up that 630, it doesn't look too good. But no, these scores will definitely not place you out of the running. Especially if your GPA / class rank / ECs / recs / essays can offset your scores.

im taking my sat 1's in january, so i cant bring up my 630 math 2c... :(...now i just feel like the slim chance i had is gone...and i have my interview tomorrow...and my other parts of the app are really good...my essays are really creative, gpa is 3.95-3.99 UW, extracurriculars are really good as well...

Your chance is definitely not gone. You still have a very good chance! Good luck on your interview! It's definitely not as hard/scary/stressful as you think it might be.

Hi There:
Since you are very goal-oriented, let me advise you to buy the prep books and really study for each SATII so that those pending SATIIs can offset your Verbal SATI. It is easy to make a mediocre score. For an extrovert like you, it may be hard to shut yourself up and prepare for what may seem to be a simple one hour exam. My son really did well on his SAT IIs but he concentrated each week on two of the tests and he knew better than to walk in cold. Classmates who walked in cold regretted this later and had to do retakes. You don't have time for this miscalculation. Take at least one practice timed test. The tests are not long and won't exhaust you but you can come out with better scores with effort since they are achievement tests.
Best wishes for your college outcomes!

I got a 660 and still got in. Granted, it was in Spanish so theyre is a pretty mean curve put on it by native speakers.

Calidan, I also believe that taking courses outside of high school helped me get in...I took two Art History courses and German.

Yep- I definitely think that those were a biiig part of my admission. Especially because I took International Relations, and I think Gtown really liked that. :p

So Manderz, are you probably going to Georgetown next Fall? Or what?

Yes, in fact I am definitely going. (Unless some disaster happens...like a "C" in Calculus oh God....)

I've decided to sacrifice spending time on other apps and focus more on scholarships now. I'm so excited and just want to leave!!!!

What about you, if you get in anywhere else will you still go?

(I feel like a traitor saying this, but...) if I get into Brown, I will most likely go there. It had been my dream school since I was very little and I still like it a lot. However, I am most likely not going to get in. Out of the other two schools that I'm applying to (Dartmouth and Penn), I'm not sure I would go to either over Georgetown.I've never even visited Dartmouth, but I was coaxed into applying.

I actually might just apply to Dartmouth and blow off the Brown and Penn apps (I've already got Dartmouth's finished). It depends on how much time I have towards January 1st.

But it would be really nice to just blow everything off, send in the tuition down payment/intent to matriculate form and just go to Georgetown and be in college already.

I hope that it didn't come off as though Georgetown is a second choice or a backup or something. It is definitely at the top of my list, I just like having choices because I know I would regret it later if I only applied to one place.

you are a traitor.

ha, just kidding
