[]Essays: I did the mustard essay, but it had nothing to do with mustard. It was about a contest at a state fair for the biggest heart, and I kind of wrote about how you have to be modest and humble and blah blah blah...it was my favorite essay, but it was kind of corny.
[]Teacher Recs: I think they were pretty good. I think they were about how I coped with someone close to me passing away last year, so, yeah.
[]Counselor Rec: I don't know, he likes me, but he's the school's football coach, so I don't know how eloquent he is.
[]Hook (if any): I'm editor-in-chief of my school's paper, exec board for our Key Club (the largest in WI), Freshman Mentor, I won an award for our state called Wisconsin Leader of the Year, got to attend TMOT...also involved in class council.
Jesus, jpps1. It hurts to see such a familiar username post the taboo word "deferred." If you really love UChicago, get an on-campus interview and take those bloody SAT II's. :(

If not, shrug off the deferral and bounce back on your other apps. You'll win either way, bud.

Well, I won't lie--my marks and class rank (even though it's technically "unranked," my GC prolly gave an idea--about top 25%) didn't help me in my cause.

However, in Quebec we have the CEGEP system, comprising of grades 12-13 (3 years of uni here). I'm in grade 12, in a VERY competitive program. My first semester marks are about 2% higher than at my high school, and my class rank has most likely improved to top 20% at the least (still not impressive, it could even be top 15% though). I'm hoping that a letter from my current GC stating that basically "he's adjusted very nicely in his first semester here, blah blah..." will help me.

P.S.: Is it possible that people who have been deferred can receive their final notification well before April 1st (say, early March)?

Can anyone provide any info on how the decisions look? Does the standard accepted=big envelope, deferred=small envelope theory apply?

I'm asking because I won't be home until around 4 tomorrow, but I'm thinking of calling home right after school to see if the envelope arrived. Of course, I'll really only be excited to hear if I'm accepted. Getting deferred a few hours earlier than necessary won't be fun.

To those who were accepted, congratulations! You all sound amazing. To those that were deferred, you guys sound amazing too. With good grades first semester (seems like Chicago cares about this a lot more than they let on!) and continued interest, you all will definitely still stand a chance.
