General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I was expecting a deferral, and from looking at this board, I would have been in great company. The funny thing is that I wrote two letters to myself, one for an acceptance and the other for a deferral. In the deferral letter, I wrote how it would be another chance to grow and a challenge to overcome. E.G. Chris Gardner from Pursuit of Happyness. So for those who were not as lucky, because luck is a large factor when the differences between candidates are so small, I wish you the best of luck in the future =). Don't forget to rub your rabbit's foot.

Deferred people...it sucks to have to wait another 4 months...but on the bright side, it may just mean that your package is coming later. (It'll still be pretty sweet.)

Where did you get THAT information? Anecdotal evidence on CC doesn't mean much. Just because it happened to you doesn't mean it happened to others.

Harvard didn't defer "most" RSI people or physics team, that I've heard.

Accepted here too(RSI, no physics team).

The siemens, NASA SHARP, robotics people I know who applied got deferred. Also, people from the lab I work at got deferred too.

And? That is still anecdotal evidence. You can call the office on Monday and ask to speak to your admissions officer to see what steps you can take to perhaps reverse that deferral. It's not like they are out to get all science people.

That is not what I meant...We think they deferred the science people because there are many science competitions coming up in january and feb (eg intel sts). So Harvard wants to wait for those comeptition results. Do not get me wrong...Harvard is still the best college and I will try my best to get in!!

I doubt that's a large factor(for everyone you listed, I mean, I am sure finalist in STS helps a lot). Harvard will just ask for your research paper if they want to evaluate it.
