I saw this on the NYU thread and I thought I'd make one here.
This thread is for general questions/venting from the EA students.

So, I just applied EA to Northeastern for Marketing. What did you guys apply for?

So, I just applied EA to Northeastern for Marketing. What did you guys apply for?

engineering.
Good luck to you. Do they send it via email if accepted or mail?

I’m sure you guys aready know that you’re really the Class of 2014/2015 (and beyond for students such as those in th harmacy program!) And so the grade confusion begins, haha.

But good luck to everyone-- I got in EA last year and I’m here in the honors program now… EA is deffff the way to go.

Haha! That’s true. I didn’t even think about that.

How is the honors program?

Just applied to the college of business admin. I wanna dual degree in compsci and business administration once i get there.

Applied to college of arts & science and Bouve College of Health science. Thinking about premed or prepharm.

Applied exactly at 11:59PM Nov 1 so im interested on how its going to work out.

What is do you find to be the benefits of the Honors Program and how was the financial aid? Any merit aid for the honors program?

I’ve applied for the Music Industry concentration.

Fingers crossed now!

When are we likely to hear back?

I really like the Honors Program-- lots of benefits, although sometimes it’s frustrating when non-honors students can’t participate in the same activities. Besides activities, honors classes (I’m taking 2 in addition to the Enhancing Honors 1 credit course) are supposed to be smaller, but my Macroeconomics class has like 50 kids (but my honors Global Climate Change class has 20ish). There are some pretty interested courses that are honors-only.

Re: merit aid… I think just about everyone in honors has gotten merit aid. I’m getting $14,000/year ($7,000/semester).

Let me know if you guys have anymore questions-- I’d be glad to answer them. And feel free to PM as well (but sorry, I can’t “chance” you… all I can do is tell you the stats I had that got me in).

One more thing… for the schools I applied RD to, my credit card transactions literally went thru at 11:59 Jan 1 and it does not make a difference (I think people have even gotten into places where they were a bit late, but that’s still a no-no!)

Is the honors program really overwhelming in terms of course/workload and difficultly? Also, how do you apply? They they just invite you if they think you’re a good candidate?

I’m a mom interested in feedback from Engineering students in Honors program. My son is also applying to some more competitive schools, but the co-ops program and merit scholarships make Northeastern appealing too.

Thanks Blinkangel44. Does anyone get full merit aid? Just curious. I have ACT 32, GPA 4.7, AP Scholar Distinction, and 5 more AP classes plus 2 college classes senior yr.

@Ohboi: I don’t think it’s overwhelming at all. Technically, honors classes are not designed to be more difficult, just smaller. But sometimes they are indeed more difficult I guess. You just have to take 6 honors classes your whole time @ Northeastern (as well as do some other stuff that I don’t really know about… like some Junior/Senior project thing). I’m taking 3 (two 4-credit courses and one 1-credit course Enhancing Honors that everyone has to take and not many people like but it’s really not bad at all and the one hour a week counts as a whole honors course). Everyone is automatically considered for the honors program and you will find out in your acceptance letter if you’ve been invited.

@colorado_mom: My roomie is an engineer in the honors program… what questions do you have specifically? I can try to ask her for some input. What type of engineering is your son interested in?

@collegesgirl: There are some full tuition scholarships… I suggest you check out [NU Scholarships – Northeastern University Student Financial Services](http://www.financialaid.neu.edu/grants/merit/NU_scholarships.php). I don’t know of anyone getting full merit aid. I’m not too knowledgeable of others’ merit aid, but I do know a few other people who got $14k/yr as well from the Dean’s Scholarship (I think that scholarship might give out up to $16k/yr. For most full tuition scholarships, I’m pretty sure you need a TON of leadership/extra curriculars/community service/etc.

I applied Early Action to the College of Arts and Sciences/Major Biology. For people who got their financial aid already, what did you do to pay for the rest of tuition/room and board? Especially with only 14k a year?

^Used savings and took out loans. I got one of those $5500 loans… can’t remember if that’s subsidized or unsubsidized. I also got a $100 and a $1000 scholarship and then found out I got the Byrd scholarship (I think $1500?)… every little bit helps.

I applied Early Action to the College of Computer and Information Science. Computer Science is my first choice major. :)

blinkangel44 -
Thanks for any help. At this point my son is “undecided” engineer, leaning toward Mechanical Engineering. But he has not ruled out Physics or Math as a major. He’s had well-rounded IB coursework in high school and done very well in all courses. But he is most energized by math/science (and music too… do you have any friends in Jazz Band?)

colorado_mom-
It’s definitely good that he’s applying as an engineer since it is a lot easier (from what I’ve heard) to transfer out of Engineering and into Arts & Sciences. I will say that engineers’ schedules are pretty set with little wiggle room, but since Physics/Math are pretty well related to Engineering, he shouldn’t have a problem exploring those options. My roommate is undeclared but knows she wants to do Civil Engineering, but she also wants to explore Architecture but really doesn’t have an opportunity to do so.

And sorry, I don’t know anyone in Jazz Band.

I applied to the School of Arts and Sciences as a chem major. RESULTS IN A MONTH!!!

btw, does anyone else have “English Proficiency Report” as one of their required documents that still hasn’t been handed in yet, in their application status check? The website says that that can be waived if you have over a 500 in CR on the SAT/ACT, which I do. So should I just ignore it?

Applied EA to Bouve for the 6 year pharmacy program, Class of 2016~ Good luck everybody!
